a practice that was made illegal in california but ktvu's melanie woodrow found it is still happeningeporter: exactly. there are dozens of websites that post mug shots. that is not a crime but refusing to take them down unless somebody pays is against the law in california. despite that law going into effect on january 2, we found several websites that were still accepting money to take down mug shots. i visited one of them. and called the number. the person said they would unpublish a mugshot for $399. the phone said it was a national website not bound by california law but a senator says that is not true. he says for people who are trying to clean up their reputation, what the sites are doing can feel like extortion. >> if we can eliminate the profit then they won't do it. >> i see my mugshot, i always remind me about my family. i don't want to hurt my family. >> reporter: her mugshot was posted online after she was arrested for shoplifting even though the charges were dropped, her mugshot is still available. she says the site will not take it down unless she pays. we will hear more

ktvu's melanie woodrow is in san francisco tonight and koved some of the fire hydrants -- discovered some of the fire hydrants were fix in 5, 6 months or longer. >> the public utilities commission says it aims to fix them within a few days but we found some that were leaking for months or longer. part of the problem may be in the p.u.c.'s paper work. the public utilities commission took over fire hydrant maintenance from the san francisco fire department around 2010. there are just 5 dedicated p.u.c. workers to maintain 12,500 fire hydrant. most leaks are reported to 311. the p.u.c. admits some were missed while others took months to fix. this fire hydrant was fixed two days after it was reported but two months later it is still leaking. another fire hydrant took 49 disrepair. >> they don't come and take care of -- days to repair. >> they don't come and take care of it. to see water wasted while we paying high bills. >> work orders, the paper work. >> reporter: p.u.c. says while there were issues with the paper work he is confident the p.u.c. is on top of the repairs. the p.u.c. says
