kpix5's melissa caen was in court today when his luck ran out. >> are you sorry for what you it, sir? >> reporter: gurbaksh chahal didn't answer, but he told the judge he was sorry and begged for lineals. he was found guilty of assault -- leniency. he was found guilty of assaulting a woman in 2013 in his san francisco penthouse, a place where he proudly showed it off to video cameras, but he was taped hitting a woman 100 times. >> i'm sure his victims begged for mercy, 113 times slapping, kicking, biting somebody. you don't think they asked him to stop? where was their mercy? >> reporter: chahal only got probation for that first crime because the video of the beating was not allowed as evidence and the victim refused to testify, but five months later he again assaulted a woman in his home kick her nearly a dozen times. that was a violation of his probation and that's why he now has to go to jail for a year. in a tearful statement to the court, chahal asked for house arrest, but the judge pointed out both of his crimes happened in his home. she also noted that in his statement he didn'

kpix5's melissa caen joins us live now with their plans to prevent future incidents. melissa? >> reporter: yeah, ken, we're learning disturbing new details today about an incident that happened here at sfo a little over a year ago. an air canada plane attempted to land on a taxiway where a number of other planes were waiting to depart. the incident didn't turn into a crash, but it still exposed some serious issues thatone congressman is trying to address. >> this was a very close call. >> united one air canada flew directly over us. >> yeah. i saw that. >> reporter: a mistake when landing at sfo last july almost killed hundreds of people and today we learned how close air canada flight 759 came to hitting another plane lined up on a taxiway. >> the distances between aircraft was about 13 feet. >> reporter: the national transportation safety board held a hearing today on the findings of an investigation into the incident. among other things the report said that the canadian pilots were fatigued and one runway was shut down. so they mistook the taxiway for a runway. >> the taxiw

when professor christine blasey ford will testify against kavanaugh, kpix5 political reporter melissa caen on the debate her story is already stirring up. >> and i'm really disappointed when i hear senators say they either believe or don't believe witnesses that they have never interviewed or heard from. >> senators will hear from professor christine blasey ford and judge brett kavanaugh this week on thursday at 10 a.m. east coast time. the senate judiciary committee will meet to consider ford's allegations kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the early '80s. one person who has already heard from ford is her congresswoman, anna eschu. >> this is an intelligent woman. this is not a woman that's confused, mixed up. >> ford lives in her district. the two met in july. >> she went into many details and at the end of our conversation i told her that i believed her. >> ford wrote down her account of the incident, that it happened at a gathering that included me and four others. so far three of the people alleged to be at the party, kavanaugh, mark judge and patrick smith, all deny the allegations.
