but first we start with melissa magee with the update on the track and the latest from the national hurricane center. >> reporter: hurricane hermine made landfall early this morning at 1:30 in the morning near the big bend area east of saint mark's, florida. the first hurricane to make landfall since 2005 and here is stormtracker 6 live double scan radar 3-d, the storm has weakened as it moved on shore now just a tropical storm, all the moisture is coming in off the atlantic and pressing into the carolinas and georgia as well. this continues to move on shift to the northeast as we go through the rest of the day. we have watching and warnings upp down the eastern shore ahead of the system. we have tropical storm warnings from savannah, georgia up to the carolinas even extending into norfolk, virginia and ocean city, maryland. and a tropical storm watch from our area from surf city to atlantic city to rebone only beach. this is moving northeast at 18 miles per hour. and the storm system is riding over the carolinas later today and eventually pushing off the mid-atlantic coast and stalling into

we begin with melissa magee for the latest track and strength of the storm. >> here is the latest with. you can see the center of the circulation here off the atlantic coast and the enhanced moisture as well. maximum sustained wins with hermine at 70 miles an hour. the reason why this tracks to the east, right now, more in the northeast. the majority of the day and the past 24 hours, we have been seeing the easterly jog. here is why. if you look at the upper levels of the atmosphere, we have the upper level low to the south and west. hermine in the open waters at atlantic, hermine missed her connection. we have the upper level low. it was to help steer hermine to the north and west. it's still going to happen, but right now, it's not going to happen until we get into the day on monday. as a result of that change, hermine drifted more than 150 miles away from its initial trajectory. talk about what we can expect with hermine right now. still moving to the north-northeast at this hour, starting to find that change in the forecast. it will continue to do so as we go throughout the daymond

meteorologist melissa magee is here to talk about the effects at the shore which are going to be damaging and significant. >> yeah, this is going to be a big storm especially for our coastal communities adam as we go throughout the rest of our holiday weekend so we'll talk about the coastal threats. heavy rain certainly a moderate concern when you have got the potential of a hurricane sitting just off of our coastline and just off shore. coastal flooding however certainly remains on the high side. same thing holds true for beach erosion at the coach and power outages because you get that constant on-shore flow of moisture leading to not only coastal flooding but also the potential of some gusty winds. expected wind gusts late saturday right into monday right along the immediate coastline 60 miles per hour or higher inland locations could find 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts and right along that 95 corridor you're close to about 40 to 50 miles per hour wind gusts. as you move to the poconos and our northwest suburbs gusts from 40 miles per hour or lower. so we'll talk about the impacts at th
