melissa mcbride from our sister station in los angeles has the latest on the cleanup efforts there. >> reporter: the muddy waters swamping the 101 freeway is sucked up, but it's a slow process, avoiding tree limbs and other debris. last tuesday's mud slides covered a quarter mile stretch of the 101. cal trans estimates it was 6 to 9 feet deep in some places. some streets in montecito are still muddy. heavy equipment has moved boulders and trees, but the yards of many homes in the mandatory evacuation area are caked with one to two feet of mud. three people are still missing. recovery teams and cadaver dogs continue to search. >> the focus is to keep digging up debris piles, send dogs through there, see if we can get a hit, get something like a concentrated area we can work on. right now it's just so widespread. the mud, some areas, are still real soupy. the dogs aren't going to be able to smell in mud. >> reporter: knowing three people are still unaccounted for, caltrans is monitoring the debris removal on the 101 freeway to be sure they're removing debris only. melissa mcbride for ab
