there will be a dedication of the new granite mountain hotshots memorial state park this morning..... the park is located 2 miles south of yarnell on state route 89.... the hotshots trail is 2.85 miles long......along the way, every 600 feet, there will be granite plaques set into rocks that show a photo and story of each fallen hotshot. once you reach the obseration deck, you will be able to see the site 400 feet below where the brave men lost their lives as well as the town of yarnell.... there will also be a tribute wall available to leave mementos in honor of the fallen firefighters..... you can also hike down to the site where the men stand to pay your respects.... in it's entirety, the entire hike is 7 miles roundtrip, so you are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring plenty of water for the at least 4 hour roundtrip hike.... the dedication ceremony is set for nine thirty this morning and will be streamed live on 12 news dot com..... passed proposition 206... to raise the minimum wage here. but workers in phoenix... are still protesting for higher pay. team 12's bryan west

memorial. which was a national park service site founded by a presidential proclamation in 1935 to commemorate st. louis' role in the westward expansion of the united states. so 12 years after the founding of the park, an architectural competition was held to decide what the memorial itself would look like. and basically, they had about 90 acres of land to work with. 40 city blocks had been torn down, completely razed of all their original buildings to make way for the memorial of the st. louis riverfront. each architect who submitted a design proposal could really do whatever he or she wanted. it could be a huge sculpture, it could be a series of museum buildings. they did want one central feature to be in each of these designs. some people put an obelisk in. some people put a big kind of monolithic rectangular block or something. saaranen decided to go with the idea of an arch. it was only after he kind of designed the arch that he realized, it forms a gateway. so it's really appropriate for the idea of a memorial to st. louis' role in westward expansion. st. louis' role as a gateway to have a gigantic gateway right there on the river front. the arch is
