rob is covering it all from memphis tennessee.d morning to you, rob. >> reporter: good morning to you, eva. the cold air that powered those santa ana winds has made it all the way to the east coast and it brought a lot of severe weather with it. we have an update on the halloween storm where we had severe weather around the philadelphia area. a confirmed ef-2 tornado winds 120 miles per hour touching down just south of philadelphia. there you see some of the damage in thornburg township. farther to the east, new jersey, we had some wind damage there with 60-mile-per-hour winds. there was one location north of philadelphia that had a wind gust to 110 miles an hour. so strong stuff with this. as you mentioned, the cold air is coming in. more than one pulse coming through. the growing season is over in new york city down through the deep south. temps feel like the 30s in memphis. are actually in the 30s. 20s nashville. that cold front will swing to the east. a second push of cold air in time for marathon sunday. we'll update what's g

the way he thought he would get to california is, he had a dry goods store in memphis. he sold all of the stuff. got freight cars. as the union pacific was built across the great plains, he followed along and had a ruling dry goods store. -- a rolling dry goods store. he learned that the union pacific railroad is going to have a facility in what would become laramie, wyoming. there was nothing here at the time. he came here before the railroad in february of 1868. he built a building in what is now downtown laramie. the railroad arrived in may. along with his wife and adopted daughter. as i said earlier, they ran the dry goods store for three years. then he started his banking career. eventually, -- let me say this. astute merchant. he was criticized for the way he made his money. really high interest rates out of the bank. foreclosed mortgages at the drop of the head. when he turned 80 years old, he decided to give all of his money away. almost all of the came back to our town. after his wife died in 1916, he city$15,000 cash in four paid for the first construction of

my tail begins in june 1975 when i was 12 years old i was living in west memphis arkansas and my mother june 1975 married what was her third husband. my birth father was not a terribly good father. my stepfather the second marriage was not a great father so i hadn't had a great Ãb chucky o'brien shows up on the scene they got married in june 1975 i got married Ãbi immediately glommed onto him. he was amazing father he showed me love and affection i had never had we did everything together and i thought he was the greatest. 12 years old. six months after my mom married him jimmy hoffa disappeared mysteriously from a parking lot in the suburbs of detroit michigan and bloomfield hills outside of the restaurant that was then called the marcus red box. to this day there is no direct evidence of what happened to hoffa, he vanished.there's a lot of theories but no one knows what happened. he was seen in the parking lot as late as 2:45, his last phone call at 3:30, that's it. there's a lot of theories about how he was picked up. but we don't know to this day what happened to hoffa, who is jimmy

[applause] thank you. i was running there that was a historic part of memphis wondering whether to write another book and reflecting on what i witnessed at the cia during that excruciating time after 9/11 and realize some of my colleagues and friends had written their stories but many of the people i worked with would never speak or write and their stories would never be told of nobody talk to them or put their stories to gather in one simple narrative to explain what happened. so i decided that morning i would do that for go this is mostly their stories. it's not a history. it's not every document that ever appeared what we call the program. it's a story of men and women that i served with who decided to speak to me. so to step back in time with me we are going into a time machine back in the 19 nineties. a lot of my colleagues talked about a time when we thought we had killed the dragon of the soviet union and all these snakes were left this was after the fall of the soviet union we

king was killed in memphis -- [indiscernible] on his his birthday, martin luther king day. it took 15 years to pass, but john never gate up -- never give up, and he kept reaching out to republicans as well as democrats. and he passed it 15 years later, and president reagan then signed it into law. [applause] it was more than a day on the calendar, it recognized the struggle for equality served a -- deserved a special place in the nation's awareness, reverence and dedication, and we could find no better way to do it than by honoring its most eloquent spokesperson, who paid the ultimate price for convictions we should all share. after matthew shepard and james byrd were murdered in 1998, he sponsored our bill, my administration's bill to strengthen and expand the federal government's power to prosecute hate crimes. we tried and tried, and i couldn't get it passed in my eight years, but john kept on reproducing it. and finally, it was signed into law by president obama in 2009. in it took all that time. 2009. [applause] but john kept on pushing. i could give you a lot of examp

so people appreciated that on the question of west memphis. my mom was living in florida.but my grandmother raised in monash lived in west memphis we had to be there that summer she met chucky through chucky's mother she was a favorite in the mob circles so they got married and then moved to florida. there is a movie coming out that is based on the book on a confession of frank shearin who was a teamsters official or at least a serious criminal and gave a confession that is the basis of this book and the confession is. [laughter] there is more to say about it but zero evidence to support it no evidence at all to support that confession and a lot of reasons you think it is false every person i talked to in the fbi to say there's no way that now it's a basis for a motion picture and good for me it's based on the early seventies theory i haven't seen the movie yet but he has him talking about hoffa and inserts himself into that so i suspect he has chucky driving him to his death and i suspect the scorsese movie will be more influential than what the fbi thinks which is unfort
