phil mendelson. an event that involves members of your own community, was information given to you as a city leader here? >> i was given some reports early in the morning but at this point i think we all know the same information. >> yeah, is there an indication about what will happen moving forward into tomorrow? i know there are some reports about who will be able to go to work and how much access there will be down in that part of the community. >> well, i can't speak to what's going to happen at the navy yard, because that's a federal facility. i think the city's going to try as quickly as it can to return to normal. obviously there will be a lot of, what do we call after-action looking at what happened and whether there were some steps we could have taken. what we should do to be better prepared in the future. but i have to say seven minutes response by police is pretty good but still you look at these events and you learn from them. >> that sounds like it's a still very active scene out there e

if you look at the first of the program you have very early, young vibrant mendelson; fabulous opener and then you have this fabulous concerto written for us in the orchestra. is our gift. msk(music) >> and then you have strauss, extraordinary piece. the most challenging of all. string orchestra work. 23 solo instrument, no violin section, now viola section; everybody is responsible for their part in this piece. the challenge is something that i felt not only that we could do , absolutely could do, but i wanted to show off. i can't tell you how aware i am of the audience. not only what i hear but their vibes, so strong. i have been doing this for a long time. i kind of make them feel what i want them to feel. there is nobody in that audience or anywhere that is not going to know that particular song by the fourth note. and that is our encore on tour. by the way. i am proud to play it, we are from san francisco. we are going to play that piece no matter where we are.

let me say, i think that mendelson is quite right.need to raise minimum wage in washingtowashington d.c. the president has called to raise the minimum wage. this bill seems to be a symbolic bill that won't help d.c. residents for quite a while. >> councilman orange,let talk about that. it's about what is a workable, wage in washington d.c. the mayor himself said in his letter to you, that you know, he believes that the minimum wage should be raised in the district. your response on that? >> well, first of all, the may or's action has opened the door to poverty wages in the district of columbia. it's opened the door to increase the tax burden on the citizens of the district of columbia. at $8.25 per hour, or $17,000 on annual basis, those employees will now apply for public assistance. wal-mart should be ashamed of itself to offer a pastery wage with -- poverty wage where their own employees will have to go on food stamps to pie product from wal-mart. and -- to buy products from wal-mart. we want jobs, but we want decent paying jobs. t
