council chairman phil mendelson scheduled several hearings, the first hearing will be wednesday. >>> a new law meant to protect your car and your money took effect in montgomery county today. that law will keep towing companies from hooking up your car unjustly and it is an issue our i team reported more than a year ago. pat collins in bethesda now with what you need to know. pat? >> jim, predatory towing is like a cottage industry in montgomery county, but now there are rules to try to put an end to that. >> this law is supposed to be about parking not a hunting license for tow truck operators. each year there are 30,000, 30,000 unconsensual tows of cars in a practice known as predatory towing. >> this is how they say it works. you park your car in a lot and you don't pay too much attention to the sign and you walk away and say you go to the post office and you come out and before you can say predatory towing and your car is off in some far away lot and it cost $150 just to get it back. it was a big problem here in montgomery county. >> today some tough new laws to curtail that kind
