the latest on the circulation that's off of cape mendocino shows this low is pushing showers from southnorth over the bay area. tonight, we will get widely scattered showers. some will come down fairly heavy at times. there's an outside chance of a thunderstorm or two, but look at that flow from the south to the north. uncharacteristic fashion, the heaviest rain over the santa cruz mountains and it is focused mostly in the south bay as you see over san jose and santa clara county. the farther north you go, changes from light to moderate showers and we will look for this kind of activity to continue to unravel overnight and we'll have more details when we cover the forecast in a few minutes. first, here is more news. >> protesters showed up at the virginia governor's mansion calling on ralph northam to step down after a racist photo from his medical school yearbook page surfaced on-line. kenneth craig says the governor insisted today it wasn't him. >> reporter: virginia governor ralph northam now says he is convinced he is not one of the people in a racist, medical school, yearbook photo

there will be a few showers around lake and mendocino counties but you will have to wait until next week to see that rain. the chinese new year parade going on. it is the year of the pig and rain is supposed to be good luck. it has rained on many years but not this year. 4:00 p.m., sun and clouds, 54 degrees. the temperatures will start to come down. low 50s later in the evening. a good idea to dress in layers so you're prepared for the cooler weather. next week, be prepared for the cooler weather. the showers begin as we head into monday night. rainfall intensity picks up. into tuesday, shifting toward the north bay and across the entire bay area going into wednesday and some scattering showers. when all this is done, there are two possible solutions. this one is pretty wet. one to over five inches of rain for the entire bay area with an atmospheric river. the second is a much drier solution. anywhere from a quarter to a half an inch some of the places will pick up an inch to two inches. two different solutions. it will depend on where the storm goes. if the first one verifies our storm
