vice president mendoza: any other comments? commissioner murase: commissioner wynns and i were at the last community meeting. i would like to congratulate them for being a good place for meeting for parents. a wanted to speak to the presenter about his affiliations with the school. >> [speaking spanish] commissioner maufas: finally, there is a decision about the school year and what to do with furlough days. we are interested in getting as much feedback as possible. >> mr. ruiz did approach me to tell me more about the feedback. he gave a short presentation in our last meeting. it is all about deadline and when you need that as to whether he can have a fall -- full pack or give notes on what we talked about a little bit. i am trying to clarify that. mostly, we have questions. we did not come to, a position on a certain proposal. we have questions and things we hope people will consider as the decision is made. president kim: any other comments or questions? thank you very much. the next item is public comment on consent items.

president mendoza: thank you. commissioner maufas: deputy superintendent lee, i know as we move through the budget ourselves, our families and staff -- we have a web site folks can send questions to. questions that would be broader public questions can get answered. >> yes, commissioner. we can do that. i think we did a fair amount of multi-modal engagement last year as well. we had a series of workshops, opportunities for community members to come and talk with us in person, including in my office. we had a variety of documents on our website. we will certainly build on those here. commissioner maufas: thank you. my second question was -- you mentioned the shift on some government programs to the local level. i know we do not have the full breadth of understanding of what those things will be, but will we have some idea of what is involved? >> we can certainly give a more detailed description of those specific proposals. we can do that either at the next board meeting on february 8 as part of our budget update --

president mendoza: commissioner norton. commissioner norton: it is good when you come to bring gifts like this. >> i would love to bring gifts every time i come. commissioner norton: are these being charged fees? >> that is an excellent question. one of the things we wanted to do when we went to look for accounts is that they be easy to use, easy to a minister, and be at a low or no cost -- easy to administer. the bank we are working with says there will be no account fees for the city or the people. there are very basic, simple accounts. i do not want to get too complicated, but it is a custodial account being held under the official ownership of the city and county of san francisco with numerous sub accounts attached to that custodial account. for all intents and purposes, each sub account will be accessible by students and their families. they can go online, check their balances, verify their deposits, and see how their money is growing. they will have earnings as well as incentives. i think that the earnings will be com

vice president mendoza. >> thank you. so this -- this has so much meaning, you guys have no idea what the resolution means to president kim and i. in particular, over the last couple of years, working closely with david golden and his staff at the facilities department, i just -- i do want to acknowledge david for the work he's done with us instead of against us. he has really opened up many conversation that is we have been able to have. and conversations we never been able to have before. so i really appreciate that -- every time we kind of came up with what seemed like a cookie idea, you were willing to hear us out and it is more of a normal conversation around opening up our schools to our fam leis to our community and really thinking about how the school district benefits the from that. and so, for me, this resolution is -- you know beyond just our surplus property. it is about all of our properties. it is also about you know, create going will if the community. and i think having our community members out -- ought t

president mendoza: thank you. >> my name is london breed. i am the executive director of the african american culture context. jameesha's mother works at our context -- are complex. she contacted me prior to relocating to san francisco, explaining she needed to come home to take care of her grandmother. unfortunately, her grandmother lives in a two-bedroom place and there is not enough room for her and her other three children. she decided to move to vallejo. her doctor decided she was not going to leave her grandmother. -- her daughter decided she was not going to leave her grandmother. i invite anyone to come to her house and see it is clear that this is where she stays. what her mom did as her legal guardian was to change the address, which was appropriate, because that is her legal guardian. i do think there needs to be able to but more involvement from the school district to come to the homes of some of these children to find out what is going on, whether it be a truant student or a student in this case, to f

vice-president mendoza. vice-president mendoza: we are going to be going forward in november, 2011. that has been an ongoing discussion to finalize. we would love to support going out in november for the alumnus. -- alumnists. we talked more about the property development on teacher housing and brought up the child development facility on k street. there were some proposals brought forward by affordable housing developers. we also have an update on the demographic for directions. i was really pleased with the report. it indicated that we were actually going to have a very large increase over the next few years. that is a very different report than what we have gotten over the last several years about the increases in enrollment. there was a lot of affordable housing that would include the ability for many of our families to stay in san francisco. that was a discussion in november. >> could you provide us with

vice president mendoza, would you like to -- >> like for you to do the hopper. it is your last resolution on the board. >> okay. i will. i'll skip through some of it. it should therefore be resolved. whereas the san francisco unified school district recognizes in a plan that the opportunity gap in san francisco's low income neighborhoods affect the overall achievement of students and s.f.a. commits to using all resources to close the gap. the board of education has passed resolution in support of closing the gap and promoting green school construction and healthy school nutrition prms and whereas low income neighborhoods in san francisco suffer high rates of poverty which affects the students abilities to meet their basic needs. where public schools are not adequately funded and there's inequity in the schools and creative policieses and practices can create and support closing the gap for our children and one of the greatest underutilized assets is the real estate and the school district properties. one of -- one, i'm sorry, they're an important asset that coul
