president mendoza: ok. so on april 29, all of our seniors will be going to the various colleges, the city college, san francisco state and ucff and we're going to have about 1,500 students at each of the sites and this is going to be a college transition day and so any of our students who are not planning on going onto college, we're going to sign them up for city college so we can ensure all of our students have opportunity to go onto college. that's an exciting day and that's part of the bridge to success program, compliments of the gateway -- i'm sorry, the gate foundation. superintendent garcia: and they're getting priority registration as well. which is great. president mendoza: thank you both. >> i think we do have a senior that is graduating also, right? and what are your plans after high school? >> i am planning to go to uc-san diego for college as a premed student. thank you. president mendoza: congratulations. that's great. thank you both. item e is the parent advisory council, p.a.c., report. do

president mendoza: item t is report of closed session actions. board of education approved the expulsion of one student in the existing litigation case. the board vote of six ayes approved the settlement of $30,000. reports listed under this item are exceptions of gifts for the month of 2011 and informational notice of classified personnel transactions. and we are adjourning in the memory of a retired administrator who passed away on february 23. he graduated from mission high school and served in the u.s. army until 1948 and was a teacher for san francisco in 1955, retiring in 1989. during his 34 years, he worked as a teacher, basketball coach and administrator and had a profound effect at different schools. he worked hard his entire life in order to achieve a good life for his family and extremely devoted to helping young men and women everywhere. he brightened the lives of many with his sense of humor, loving husband and father and grandfather. board of education and superintendent of schools express sincere condolences to his family. meeting

[applause] >> my name is tommy harper. i came for tommy harper and lirnd. linda. my son will be in college this year. he's going to college this year. i'm not here to talk about thompson. i'm here to say my son is from bay view hunes point. i have a principal that told my son to defend himself. i have an issue. i wrote a letter, i know it means nothing because every time you're a parent and say stuff, it goes in the garbage. but what kind of leader is going to tell my son that is brought up with guns and people dieing in front of him to defend himself. we had an incident where my son was bullied and beat up. i come up to the school, when i come up to the school to give up money to give to my child for a track, i find my child had been jumped on. i approach the principal, confide in my soon to make him comfortable first because he's got tears in his eyes. i'm confused. i go to the principal. when i get to the principal's office, the secretary, can you go get the p

president mendoza: the student delegates report. >> we were talking about college and career class'es. they all thought that taking it in ninth grade since it was an issue, it was too early. ninth grade is more of a transitional year rather than a college planning year. we thought would be best to have the career classically an option to take in tenth or eleventh grade. and of the ninth graders an opportunity to take modern world in their freshman year. to be finalizing the work on the bathroom policy. we also plan on writing a resolution on improving this provide college counseling services to that all students have the opportunity to get one- on-one time with the counselor. president mendoza: the parent advisory council report. >> i am joining the parent advisory council this year. >> we are excited to talk to you about an initiative that the parent groups have been taking. members have been working with members of the district pta and parents for public schools to develop a tool kit. it will offer resources and tools for parents to help voice their concerns. will also been working

president mendoza: thank you. augmented rules and policy and legislative commission. commissioner murase: my report will be brief. we reviewed legislative proposals and relied allegation on csba recommendations. i have that available if there are members of the board who would like to review the specific legislation. the committee is looking at a formal process for appointments to different committees that we have and the first step was really developing a full roster of the various committees and task forces that we appoint to. so i want to thank nancy for her staffing of this particular effort and it's still in process. we will continue to keep you updated as we come closer to a formal written policy. president mendoza: thank you. and a report on the committee of the whole, we had a presentation on the 2011-2012 budget overview of the developments since the tax extension has not quite yet gotten onto the ballot. so we're looking at an additional $25 million in cuts in addition to the $113 million that currently
