saying she was paid to make the tape, and has never met senator menendez in her life. but joe johns is working with his sources. and the washington post also wrote the story. carol, a lawyer gave a script to another lawyer, who found a prostitute to read it? i mean, can you walk us through what you know? it seems confusing. >> it sounds really fantastical, especially when we were given some of these documents. when my colleague translated them, what we saw was that a woman who describes herself as an escort said she was approached by a lawyer with her co-worker, they were asked if they would go to a hotel room and if they would read some language aloud. which they did. that lawyer, who they identified, has now gone to the court with them, in the dominican republic, and said he was also hood winked. a separate lawyer, a second lawyer told him he needed a videotape of some women saying they had been unfaithful with a particular client, and this client had been unfaithful against his wife, that he was a divorce lawyer. and when the tape surfaced in the daily caller, of co

let's start with bob menendez. it is hard to tell.aller first cams out with this story that bob menendez, senator from new jersey, down in the dominican republic with prostitutes, allegedly even some of them underage. now "the washington post" says maybe they got it wrong. what's going on? who do we believe? >> it is really convoluted story. it takes a lot of time to explain but in the simplest terms -- >> you have five minutes. >> bill: five minutes? that's a filibuster! >> the "washington post" reported that on a woman came forward, said i was paid to say that menendez paid me and my fellow prostitutes for sex acts. >> bill: this follows "the daily caller" -- menendez did pay the prostitutes and they identified the women. >> yes. in the original "washington post" story, they suggested that this woman is the same woman who was in "the daily caller" video. then "the daily caller" comes back and says no, you're wrong. it is not the same woman. it is a different woman. now, abc news has also reported it the same woman "the daily caller"

what's the latest on senator menendez?is is a story that could be like a movie of the week at this point really. it turns out through many, many stories that we have seen since that he -- the alleged profit prostitute that and last fall say they were now paid and they never had any interaction with senator menendez and there is now a dominican investigation that says they were paid by the conservative website, the daily caller, and there is an unidentified man named carlos with half his face in the video, the person who was paying them. we have his picture on his website, so if anybody recognizes him everybody would like to know who carlos really is. >> that's the real question. who is carlos? who is behind him? there have been many reports -- >> daily caller denies that they are. >> the daily caller say they have never paid anybody but it's clear and they still stand by their story amazingly, there has been a lawyer who says he was paid and the prostitutes say they were paid to gin up this story and senator menendez says

for weeks the powerful chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, robert menendez, has been denying reports that he paid women for sex in the dominican republic and now one of the women said she was paid to lie about the senator. abc's brian ross is here with all the details on the story that wasn't. good morning, brian. >> good morning, george. that's true. american politics as you know knows few limits and both parties have played their share of dirty tricks. in the case of menendez he appears to be the victim of a very dirty trick involving sex, lies and videotape. here's how it happened. as menendez campaigned for re-election last year, republican operatives secretly went into overdrive to implicate him in a sex scandal. is that the same person you had sex with? is it, as menendez alleges, partisan politics?rviewed the same woman and that the interviews were instigated by unknown republican operatives last fall right before his re-election. abc decided not to air the report. but the website who published the stories is nd sstanding by story. the woman snaying she was paid o lie is not the woman in this video. >> she clearly didn't identify the people she said she was paid to identify and the woman we interviewed went by a different name. her age doesn't even match up. >> reporter: beyond the he said, she said, they are determining whether with the port security contract in the dominican republic. the fbi is also interviewing melgen for potential health care fraud and raided his offices earlier this year. menendez repeatedly denies doing anything wrong. >> on public policy issues we think that those are all legitimate and, in fact, you know, after any review will be proven to be. >> reporter: now, the woman who says that she was paid to lie about being a prostitute for senator menendez was

she is an acquaintance of menend menendez.ments, they're k w notarized, a woman identified as nexis delos santos santana says she was the girl in the video, but she was paid to read out loud that she slept with menendez. santana adds that she never knew she was being recorded. castillo assures that santana is the girl who appears in one of the videos wearing a yellow dress. he also presented another notarized confession. an attorney who pins the blame on another attorney, a third attorney. this attorney asked him for help with a divorce case by finding him witnesses who would make prostitution claims. cnn has tried to contact both attorneys but we have gotten no response yet. the documents show also, john, that santana and galvan asked a judge for legal protection because they claim they were tricked, and that court hearing will take place later today. so we'll be paying attention to that hearing today, john. >> as you said, a tangled web that still needs some unraveling. our thanks to you from miami this morning. >>> a manhun
