so, in response to senator menendez question on the steps that you were taking for broad-based wage growth you answered several things but let me ask you this. is it your opinion that it is the fed responsibility or the role to do something about the wage growth? >> i think what you've assigned us is maximum unemployment and stable prices and also financial stability we have an overall responsibility for that. maximum employment defense of that is that it's not just one measure it's a broad range of measures and i think we've worked hard to provide support for the labor markets. >> and that would include wage growth. >> it comes into both of those things, maximum employment and inflation. >> here's the other thing you said that concerned me and one way to address and increase the wage growth was income needs to go out and they only go up with higher productivity. let me ask you this, because i've looked at some of the economists and studied some of the reports in the last 30 years or so and i know that was true from 1950 to 1970. but we also have those that show from 1973 to 2016 which is
