at a home on santa ray avenue which is not far from lake merritt. firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to neighboring homes. they say it started at the rear of the house on the second f loor. it damaged two back bedrooms, which the homeowner uses as a sewing room and an officer. >> opened the door and it was just solid black inside. i tried to reach anything. i couldn't see -- see one foot inside the room. >> no one was injured. but the damage is extensive. investigators say the home is not a total loss. most of the damage was to the roof and attic area. sanfrancisco firefighters are seeming up -- teaming up with st. francis's hospital burn unit to encourage people to take care of their christmas decorations. they set a christmas tree on fire to show how quickly those dried branches and deck l akeses -- decorations can go up in flames. fire officials point out that each year holiday season fires claim the lives of over 400 americans and injure 1600 more and cause over $990 million in damage. they blame dried out trees, o verloaded extens
