and that's exactly what's happened at lake merritt over the past several weeks. at some of the video. they've been reports of thousands of dead fish, even other aquatic life like stingrays, washing up dead on the shores of lake merritt. today oakland public works crews are scheduled to go along the lake to remove some of those dead fishing clean things up, especially before the hot weather expected this weekend. earlier this month, a regional environmental group tested the water in lake merritt and confirmed that the die off is because of that toxic algae. it's a problem, scientists and environmentalists haven't seen at this size and scope before. we do get alga blooms around the bays margin. that's not uncommon , but they're isolated, and they last only a few days. typically this bloom has been going on for over a month, and it's covering san francisco bay. so the scope and the duration of this bloom is unprecedented. the algae was first spotted in lake merritt earlier this summer, and how widespread it is what's part of what's unprecedented as you just heard, n
