someone opened fire near the lake merritt bart station. bay area's velena jones is tracking the story. velena, what do we know at this point? >> reporter: this is still a very active scene at this moment. we know the coroner's office just got here on scene. one man is dead tonight. police not releasing information on that victim or his age, but we also know that a suspect has now been detained. police tell us that they used surveillance video footage from right here at this bart station to identify that suspect and take him into custody. now, this is still an ongoing investigation. we know all of this happened around 2:30 this afternoon when that man was shot and killed on the street level here at the lake merritt bart station. we're told this happened in the bus zone area. bart police telling us that both the victim and the suspect in this were not connected to the bart station and were not riders at the time. it's unclear what caused this altercation and this shooting, however, bart police are continuing to investigate this.

amber julie, we're on oak street just outside the lake merritt bart station now. it happened shortly after 230. police say it took place right outside one of the entrances to the station. you can see that a black tent has been set up to cover the victim's body. investigators say cameras captured the shooting and they have taken a suspect into custody. they have not yet said what led to the shooting. officers located a victim near the bus zone on the street level near the lake bart station. the officers began. to give first aid at and unfortunately, the victim was declared deceased at the scene, officers used video images from some of the many thousands of cameras inside the bart system to locate a person of interest and conducted an area search. and we have now detained a suspect in this case . and the investigation is continuing at this point. the body has just been removed from the scene. now, bart, police say they were able to locate the suspect within 90 minutes of the shooting, but did not say if they recovered the gun initially . trains were not stopping at

now to a home invasion in broad daylight at a house near lake merritt in oakland with the couple insideked him and his wife in their basement while they stole the valuables. surveillance video shows a black sedan pulling up in oakland's china hill neighborhood near lake merritt. one man gets out of the car and walks towards the home. minutes later, a second man is seen pulling a mask down to cover his face as he crosses the street. an 87 year old who asked me not to show his face, says the two invaded his home and robbed him and his wife. i was shocked, but my adrenaline was running and i know enough that if i resisted that i had no idea what they were going to do to us. the home invasion took place shortly after 2:00 friday afternoon, putting neighbors on edge. it's an area with large, beautiful old homes, and i'm still scared. and also it's very hard to believe because this area is very nice. the victim says the two men broke in by going to the back of the home and using a ladder to access a second floor kitchen window. the victim's 84 year old wife was home alone at the time. he says

oakland's lake merritt bart station.da county district attorney's office has charged 45 year old one martinez in connection with the fatal shooting outside of the lake merritt bart station on august eighth. now, according to police , the shooting stemmed from a dispute over an electric scooter. martinez is currently in custody at the santa rita jail. he's being held without bail. he faces charges of murder , felony criminal threats and an additional sentencing enhancement. san francisco leaders hope diversion programs will help reduce the number of overdose deaths and help drug addicts get clean. law enforcement, the courts and drug treatment counselors are working together to run alternative programs for offenders instead of going to jail. there's more support and more therapy. the women's resource center in san francisco helps about 20 women with drug addictions every day. it means everything to me. it's giving me that crutch and that stability and that comfort. i come in here every morning super happy. i'm like, hi, e
