when you think of meteorology, you think of the difficulty of classifying a hurricane and tracking a hurricane, making judgments about such complex behavior that has sort of chaotic premises underlying it, you're going to make lots of mistakes. you're going to make lots of mistakes in both directions. sometimes you're going to make a mistake when you think the storm is going to hit and it doesn't and sometimes you're going to make mistakes where you think the storm is not going to hit and it does. and i think one of the great challenges, quite frankly, for the legal system, is understanding statistics well enough to make that judgment about where you draw that line that anita was referring to about where do you want to avoid the errors. you want to avoid the errors, a category five hurricane is going to hit miami but there is only a 40% likelihood that that hurricane is going to hit miami, do you evacuate the city? well, if you evacuate the city and it doesn't hit, you spent tons of money and possibly hurt lots of people in doing that. if you don't evacuate the city and the storm hit

let's talk about debby because you want some meteorological humor? a lot of people say meterologists don't have any humor. i think this is hysterical. the intern and i have been laughing all day about this. these are model forecasts and each line represents a future forecasted track of debby. we couldn't be any further of confluence with these lines. we've got two models taking west, several doing east, a quomodoses doing a loop de -- couple models doing a loop de loop, so it's not going anywhere fast and it will probably cross over florida into the atlantic ocean off the southeast coast. that's when we have to watch it going through next week, but in the meantime poor folks in florida will get hammered with another 5 to 10 inches of rain. you can see the band of showers and thunderstorms moving across florida and not much change the next 24 to 48 hours as she kind of sits and spins. we had big thunderstorms earlier. we had a thunderstorm watch. it's south of town down towards st. mary's, all those showers and thunderstorms gone. the cold front moved

this is a really interesting one for us in the world of meteorology because there's still a lot of questions. you see it's still a very large column but it takes it to the west. it does strengthen to a hurricane which for all concerned along the gulf is not good news. i thought we would talking about, that still has the chance to pick up this storm and turned it to the east and bring it to florida instead of texas. obviously, all at interests in florida could face a hurricane. everyone needs to pay close attention. you can see they are all over the place. if.com strong enough and fast enough, it will turn the storm to the east and not take it to the west. for us at home, we don't have those concerns. we see advisories go into effect tonight as those winds start to pick up with that approach in front. today a beautiful one. 89 degrees for the hide. tonight we will start to drop into the 60s. a chance for a couple showers are under stones as that approach. scattered showers and thunderstorms are a possibility. look at the swinging temperatures. only 84 the high on tuesday, so it's a cooler day

it's called an mcs and it's got a fancy meteorological name, but there's another name for this type of complex. it's called a deracho. they move very fast and put down a lot of wind. earlier in the afternoon up in indiana this thing was doing a lot of damage with the wind. we saw reports of 80 mile-per- hour plus winds up in ohio with this and it continued to travel on down and it's been moving at 50 and 60 miles per hour. i mean this complex of thunderstorms again within ohio at 6:00. so here we are less than five hours later and it's right on top of us and we knew it was going to be windy. we knew we were going to have these wind damage reports and this is exactly what's happening. as we look at the tower camera, another thing that's very prolific with this is the amount of lightning. we are seeing lightning concentration which we don't see very often. of course, it's a very tropical atmosphere. we have a lot of moisture in the atmosphere and that helps with the lightning as well. you can just -- it's continual lightning as this thunderstorm passes through, this squall line passes th
