with meterologist lawrence karnow. ce karnow: the first rain of the season is now moving into the bay area. it's a welcomed sight especially with all of the recent fires. winds are a little gusty ahead of the front between 15 to 25 mph. you can see the rain on doppler radar. it will be spreading south throughout the night and everyone should get some rain. we can expect as much as a quarter of an inch of rain in the north bay with more over the mountains. the rain will tapper off further south but everyone should get some much needed drops. a high surf advisory is in effect with waves as high as 18 feet at the coast. also a winter weather advisory goes up tonight for the sierra with between 3" to 6" expected over 6,500 feet. winds could gust to nearly 65 mph across higher peaks. you can see the cold low droppng out of the gulf of alaska. rain will increase thoughout the night before turning to showers early tomorrow morning. most rain should end before the morning commute but the roads will be especially slick with the
