we are joined by john holman in mexico city. tell us about the attack on the police officers. >> well we have been talking to analysts and experts and looking through newspaper records of the last knew years in mexico. this is a big deal. 15 police men killed in a single attack. this is the biggest number killed in a single incident in recent years in mexico. from what we have been looking through for the entirety of the drug war. this speaks of a cartel, a new generation in the we were sit that is growing in power, and feeling in a confident position. so the attack happened in the western state, on a highway. a police convoy was moving down the highway, and it was an ambush. gunmen appeared and shot at the gunmen killing 15 officers that was not anything that was spontaneous. something planned with precision. police and authorities tell us this was in retaliation to the police killing the boss of a local drug plaza called el gringo. this was a revenge attack and speaks to the power and stranglehold on the state. the cartel is in

let's talk to john holman our correspondent in mexico city. are we seeing a massive increase in abuse of all kind. or do you think we are seeing more cases reported more people aware of the fact that they can go to the authorities about this? >> well what children's rites organizations have been on the phone, they have been saying to me that we are not seeing a big increase. we are seeing things that have been high for some time. it's just different states and authorities in mexico have been lapse in reporting the figures. it looks like an increase but it's been high for some time. that's been the case because in mexico we are talking about a society, that many sectors see it as okay to hit children discipline them and there's a form of punishment for children. it goes for some sectors of society and police and authorities, saying that the organizations, when they take children to get the matters resolved, that the authorities and the police - the reaction is indifference or to stay that's okay, that's how you discipline children. for children

. >>> jonah hull joins me live from mexico city. these guns and gangs are so powerful in their own particular areas, why they felt it necessary to ambush the police and carry out these massive number of murders? >> actually, it's rare for mexican cartels to get involved at this level. 15 police killed, and we've been talking with analysts and experts here. they say it's the biggest number of police killed in a single attack in all of the drug wars, in all of the years of the drug war. in this case to answer your question it was in retaliation of police killing a local leader two weeks ago. this was a well choreographed attack on them. they ambushed them on the highway as the police convoy went through and shot down 15 officers here. so this is a cartel that is known for its drug smuggling more than anything. it has access to the two oceans on either side of mexico, and also a good land route to traffic drug and the know how and international contacts to do that. that's it's main form of business. experts thought perhaps the police w

meanwhile, mexico city is considered the worst in north america. now, there was some interesting statistics in this survey by tom-tom. from 2013-2014, researchers say that congestion here in our region increased by about 3%. also they say that for a 30-minute commute that drivers locally face 78 hours of delays each year. they also say that the best commutes during peak periods meaning if you have to drive during rush hour here in our region are on friday morning or monday evenings and they say that the worst commute times in our region are tuesday, wednesday and thursday mornings. and thursday evenings are also particularly bad according to these researchers. one last note they say that the most congested day in 2014 was on april 30th which is interesting because we went back and looked at the archives of stories we covered at sporting events, weather events. nothing stood out to us as being a cause of bad traffic that day. it just goes to show you how unpredictable traffic can be. reporting in mobile track 7 on 39d 395, mike conneen. jummy: you k
