>> maine to miami beach.ou're talking about airport delays and cancellations and you could think of tens of millions being impacted. boston, new york, washington, dulles, reagan national. i mean, every major airport on the eastern seaboard could be impacted. you talk about virginia and maryland and del marva ten inches of rain and this is the hemoth all those words really do apply. here it is. it has been downgraded but it certainly does not lessen the damage. why? what's so crazy about this? what it really is is a hybrid of the storm. the tropical nature of it but the impacts of the area of low pressure. a classic nor'easter fusing together for potential explosion in terms of the wind and the rain amount. and normally this time of year, we have a hurricane or a tropical storm. this jet stream takes it eastward. an area of high pressure here and low pressure to the south and as this thing pushes east, it gets caught up in a wall and can't move any more eastward. with the wind that is taking it farther westwar

there wasn't media in south miami dade county that day and everyone was up in miami or on miami beach or in broward along the line when andrew was coming in and it wasn't until 22 minutes into the "today" show the next day we all looked at the television screen and realized homestead was gone. it was just piles of firewood in south miami. you did nut have any idea of the disaster because of social media last night we had an idea but it takes getting the choppers up to figure it out. >> it will take days for emergency vehicles to get to the areas that are blocked off and they are not allowing the news crews in. it is devastating. hats off to emergency management and the first responders who risk their lives to save our lives. it is times like these we all have to get together and help each other out. >> that appears to be what is happening a time honored and seen again and again american story disaster after disaster. in this business you parachute into disasters and that is often the triumphant over tragedy of the human spirit but another thing going on today all up and down the coast

feeling some effects across florida getting in the weather from orlando back to the miami beach area. they are short-lived but with heavy rain in a short amount of time not only that, talking very gusty wind at times 40 to 50 miles per hour. where is sandy heading next? moving to the north and eventually will be turning into the mid-atlantic and northeast. landfall will be occurring around the new jersey shore, certainly something that will be a big problem for many kicking off a week. melissa: just in time for halloween. hurricane sandy pressuring the energy market. gasoline futures higher after a staggering 10 day losing streak, longest losing streak since 1986. all on concerns the storm could hit east coast refineries. you are always right on target. tell me what refinery options are in the way here. >> we're talking about the epicenter of the east coast refinery industry, what is left of it, between delaware and new york harbor. upwards of 1.1 million barrels per day of refinery capacity is in the wake of this storm at this point. we do have a dearth of refinery. we already have l

by the look of where you are, i would rather be where you are than where i am and i'm in miami beach right now. so secondly, i also agree with chip, i don't think newspaper endorsements matter at all. regardless of the snippet that you read. if you ask bill bradley who got the de"des moines register" endorsement in 2000, it didn't matter to him. and howard dean, who got a lot of endorsements in 2004, it didn't matter to him. the fundamentals of the election are static. in order for romney to win, he's got to sweep the southeast, including florida, where we are. abc has boem up right now in their poll and north carolina which is also neck and neck. he has to not only win ohio but essentially run the tables. right now, ohio, if you look at about a dozen polls, has obama up by somewhere between two and three points, and there's no precedent for any, given the polling data is that rich, there's no precedent for any candidate coming this late in the campaign from behind. by two to three points. when you've got such, as i say, rich data polling, polling data in the state of ohio right now.
