traveling with the president, michael bender of the "wall street journal." ladies first. take us the water cooler talk and the most fascinating moment we have not been able to see back home here? >> i think the most fascinating moment is one we are still waiting on. whether president trump has this with aside with vladimir putin. there have not been deliverables so far. will he or won't he? & will he put more pressure? when he was in the presence of china, saying how flattered he was and how much the relationship was great. he didn't deliver a touch message from china, but he did in vietnam. a lot of people question about what happened. why wouldn't you do that face-to-face in china? >> that seems to be their exact strategy. it is a tough needle to thread on one hand as you mentioned. he wants to be chummy with the president and i was in the pool for the day in beijing and the bond and the chemistry between them is undeniable. a lot of putting each other's hands on their backs and a lot of nodding. that seems real. and trump wants to project that air of friendliness in th

. >> michael bender of the "wall street journal," molly ball, lauren fox.ender, i'm going to start with you on this, trump's involvement in this campaign essentially backing roy moore is coming as a surprise and disappointment to a lot of leaders on capitol hill. they wanted a different outcome. his involvement comes with obviously upsides for roy moore. but it does come with some consequences for the republican brand and trump himself possibly. >> possibly. but i think what we've seen from president trump and his political calculations, it's very short term. he's not worried about the long-term brand like mitch mcconnell would be or the long-term implications for the legislative agenda. he's focused on the near term. he wants immediate wins. we've seen that repeatedly. he talked about these major legislative issues that can take years of singular focus and he expects them to be done right away. it's almost as simple as that. then you have another layer here. this is a very familiar scenario for president trump. he obviously faced similar accusations in the

michael bender. let me start with you. you covered senator menendez for a long time and are familiar with the trial. he was charged with 12 counts of experience, bribery, and fraud. refusing the power of this office. what do you think this says about the fact that the jury said it? >> no surprise. they have been struggling and the judge is trying to keep them to make a decision. these are very tough cases. the public corruption cases. the justice department does not have a good record in getting guilty verdicts here. there was a lot of expectation in washington that he might be found not guilty. this means it will drag on for a while. they try again or what. people who were there don't think it was a really hard convincing case that they presented. >> stand by. we have our own justice reporter, jessica schneider who was with us. what are you hearing from your sources and our team about what exactly is going to happen now, not to mention what the judge's reaction was. i'm sure he was not pleased. >> this is the big question

reporting and insights dana bash, jonathan martin "the new york times," "wall street journal"'s michael bender, cnn's nia malik cag hill and mj. a house vote still expected later today on a new policy. what is the mood up there as they continue to deal not just with the conyers allegations but the broader question? >> that's right. sometime this afternoon we expect the house to take up this new resolution that would require lawmakers in the house, staffers in the house to get mandatory sexual harassment training. just to be clear, this is a resolution, not a law. but it is still mandatory for everyone in this building seemingly to get this kind of training. this is the kind of action that we saw in the senate recently, as well. clearly a line that lawmakers are realizing this is a serious issue they have to take steps on. i would note that this kind of resolution is really far from some of the broader changes and reforms that lawmakers are calling for. calling for more transpatiency, changes to how the office of compliance does sexual harassment investigations. so all of those changes we don't
