a number of candidates, andrew yang, michael bennet dropping out, suspending their campaigns.oing forward it's going to be a different ball game in south carolina and nevada, biden has been putting his chims on the table at south carolina at this point, so really extending a lot of resources there for him. but i think some things to watch for going forward on those states is one on the bernie sanders front. and there's still a question about whether or not he can expand his support beyond this 26, 27 percentile that he has gotten in these first couple of states. we've been seeing voters leading biden and warren, some of the other second-tier candidates, but they're not going to sanders, as far as we're seeing right now. we've seen them go to buttigieg and klobuchar. going forward, sanders needs to show that he can pick up voters outside of the core support of his base. then i think what we're really going to see is a battle between klobuchar and buttigieg, which we have already been seeing the two of them going at it in the debates. and to fight for the establishment wing of t

but first, joining me now a juror on the president's trial, democratic senator from colorado michael bennet. he is also a 2020 presidential candidate. back on the campaign trail in new hampshire. senator, let me ask you, what does the fact that they did not allow, they voted to stop any witnesses, any further documents coming in. what does this say to the country about where we are in terms of the ability to impeach a president and where the standard of impeachment is? >> i think, rev, it's a very dangerous moment for our democracy. i think that mitch mcconnell, because of the way he wrote the rules, has engaged in a cover-up flash flood donald trump. whether people are leaning toward conviction or acquittal, the question that he resolved with help from his companferencr caucus was to deny the american people to get to the bottom of what donald trump did. so i think it was the most significant anti-democratic, small "d" democratic exercise that i've seen in the time i've been in washington. what it now means is that a president can act like a tyrant and congress can't even ask for documents

senator michael bennet of colorado announced that he is ending his campaign.e's planning to go back to his previous job of looking like the assistant principal on a disney channel show. he had .3% of the vote, less than 1%, and he's dropping out. and he's dropping out. michael bennet's saying he's dropped out of the race is like me saying i've decided not to run the kentucky derby this year. two better-known democrats, deval patrick and andrew yang are dropping out. yang is dropping out to spend more time with his calculator. if you're wanting something to remember him by, his merchandise is now 40% off. in case you're looking for something to wear with the word "yang "is on it. bernie is the guy beat. but the big surprise has been amy klobuchar. she took third place last night. a month ago, if somebody had told me she was going to do better than joe biden, that person would have been amy klobuchar. it wouldn't have been anybody else. even our president, donald jehosophat trump has uttered her name twice. one was in 2018 for the presidential medal of freedom.

center michael bennet and andrew yang suspending their campaigns last night. early voting in nevada's caucus begin saturday. meanwhile this is the first time the state has done early voting. the plan is to use paper ballots for early voting and scan the results like a scantron. >> this is a plan we decided would be the most in secure. we are excited to have been able to roll that out and we are expecting and energized turnout for nevada democrats. >> the top choice needs the 15% threshold is the one that will be counted on caucus tuesday which is the very 22nd. now the big call for candidates will be in three weeks and that is when california will award its 495 delicates, that primary is not one contest but many and hear how it works. the majority of the delegates, 272 of them come from california's 53 congressional districts. think of each one as a mini primary but there is a catch. only the candidates who reach 15% in this case the three of them, they split the delegates awarded from that district pick everyone below that get nothing. >> the counter risk is

i met more michael bennet voters yesterday than i have the entire year. john delaney voters. this is why. they will go in on the first choice saying i'm caucusing for michael bennet knowing he won't meet the threshold. then they can go where is needed. that is fascinating to me. i have heard that from people across the state here. but you can't go in uncommitted. because if uncommitted wins, that could be viable. and that would be like 1976 and jimmy carter. >> and the thing about that, going in with a weaker candidate so you can realign is that one of the things voters are doing is they're trying to look and see who's strong. who's actually doing really well. so that kind of thinking can benefit candidates who are already doing well. so if you have a caucus where you have a lot of candidates on the bernie side or a lot of voters on the bernie side or biden side, that realignment will benefit those candidates. >> kay, you're the one here who's probably voted in a caucus before. but how much pressure can a campaign put on inside that gymnasium? can you have someone who can win
