mayor michael bloomberg and a number of big city mayors were working with trial attorneys to try to sueegally made and sold firearms for the act of third-party criminals. we got federal legislation passed to outlaw those types of suits. and to say the only type of suit that could be filed is when a law is broken or the firearm is truly defective. we passed a law following the tragedy in hurricane katrina where one of the untold stories that was told by nra through nra news and elsewhere was the fact that when people needed their right to self-defense most, the police chief and mayor ray nagin ordered law enforcement officials to go house to house to confiscate the guns owned by lawfully -- owned lawfully by legal citizens. we wanted to make sure if there was a declared state of emergency in america never again would our government officials be confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens. we managed to pass that through the state and federal levels to pass that. and we managed to pass a law to an amendment to a credit card reform bill to allow people who legally own firearms to carry in

one of the guys to get me my best political advice of my life is michael bloomberg.aid, cory, you should become a billionaire first and then mayor. [laughter] but god bless michael bloomberg and other philanthropists who have started the city of service campaign. we are now going to have a service officer on our staff that will be analyzing this problem. and a meeting in my office to talk about service yesterday because we want to create a process online and offline where someone can go to a website and see that, ok, i want to volunteer for a day. ok, here is a place for you can pick up a paintbrush and paint, or you can go to an animal shelter and do this. or i can volunteer for a week. we want to create an easy online to create volunteerism. and then have offline components as well. we're thinking about having three days of service in our city that we are going to try to celebrate more. 9/11, martin luther king's birthday, as well as a back-to- school type event. we're working very strong because i have seen night patrols and it -- senior citizen police academies.

host: from "the new york post," it the mayor of new york, michael bloomberg, says the obama bank tax new york. he is quoted as saying this -- take a look at detroit. guest: detroit had a lot more problems than just taxes on cars. if you look at the banking system the last year two, this fee is the last of their problems. lehman brothers collapsed and wiped out tens of thousands of jobs. i return to my prior point, if the only way this industry can survive -- of subsidy that ends up costing a bundle to the taxpayer, it is questionable whether that is actually an industry you want thriving. host: what about this headline in "the financial times?" let me just flip the page. it says executives if foreign banks reacted at anchor -- guest: that as one of the problems with the fee is structured, and posing the $50 billion cut off creates the incentives to get below $50 billion to escape it. notwithstanding, i think the purpose of the fee is quite legitimate. the way it has been structured is problematic for those reasons and because she, it doesn't in a very graceful way discourage these ba
