bloomberg's economics and policy correspondent mike mckee walking us through the numbers michael: -- through the numbers. michael: certainly it was a jaw-dropping number. it pushed the headline cpi up 7.8% on a yearly basis and the core up 6.2 percent. they redid these indexes in 2010, so we can't go back farther than that, but those are the highest numbers we have seen. they don't seem to be translating into concern on wall street, however. that may be because they are seen a supply chain problems, not demand problems. so there isn't a whole lot that can be done about them until the supply chains are fixed. you look at what is going on in inflation expectations, which is what the fed is watching these days, and they are not moving. we see the university of michigan, and we get new michigan numbers on friday, but the one year number has gone up significantly. the blue line is the five-year inflation number. purple and yellow are what wall street sees for the five-year and two-year inflation figures, and they are not seeing very much. it is just kind of at the top of the fed's limit.
