i understand we have sheriff michael bouchard from michigan. >> yes.at is the status currently? give us the latest update? where are these two people? >> that is a work in progress. when we were informed, actually, by the media that the charging decision had been made and there would be a press conference this afternoon, we sent out our detectives, and also had contact with the cup 8's lawyers. the couple's lawyers said the individuals would be arrange to have -- and later in the morning, the lawyer called and said they are not returning texts or calls. so, you know, that's obviously concerning on a number of levels. we have triggered a full fugitive activity alert for our folks. we have our fugitive appear hence team, in consulting with the fbi and also the u.s. marshal's fugitive team. we are all out there. i am confident we are going to catch these two. it's just a bit frustrating it played out in this manner. >> have any tips come in from this man hunt seasons we learned of it just within the also hour or so? >> literally it just started because as

very glad to be joined now by the sheriff of oakland county, michigan, michael bouchard.here today. i know you have a lot going on. we appreciate your taking time to fill in the people about what is going on. let's start where steve harrigan left off with regard to where these parents are. what is your understanding of what is going on? >> yeah, you know, we very much as you did learned last night that the prosecutor was going to make a decision within 24 hours. she announced that yesterday. we learned this morning when you did that charges would be announced. so we began the process of going to get those individuals because up to that point there were no charges levied or pending. we had contact with the attorney for the parents and the parents said with the attorney that they were going to turn themselves in. the attorney said she would make that happen this morning. when we were notified by the prosecutor i've office that she was going to issue charges, then we went to move to arrest the parents. at that point, the attorney said the parents are now nonresponsive. >> ma

here's what michael bouchard had to say about that. >> we believe they were assisted in that location to get there, to get in and we're gathering that information and we're going to have the totality of that done fairly soon and present that to our prosecutor for potential charges for either aiding and abetting or obstruction of justice. >> reporter: i have a few more details about what transpired overnight. my colleague said that person of interest was caught on surveillance video helping guide the crumbley's car into the parking spot at the back of bidding where they were eventually found and letting them into the building. detroit police may it clear they did not break in to this warehouse where they were later found, locked inside an art studio on the third floor. so clearly some difficult times, many hours looking for them fou each of the manslaughter charges carries up to 15 years in prison and a $7,500 fine. very serious charges the parents are facing. the prosecutor saying they are criminally negligent and that's is why she's taking this rare step of bringing charges against t

let's talk about this now with oakland county sheriff michael bouchard. sheriff, first off, i want to focus in on this meeting, two meetings. we know that the suspect had a meeting with school officials the day before the shooting. and then just a few hours before the shooting he had a meeting where his parents -- there -- his parents having a meeting with school officials. what prompted that meeting? >> on the day prior to the tragedy, a teacher in the classroom where he was a student saw and heard something that she felt was disturbing in terms of his behavior. and they had a counseling session about it with school officials. and a phone call was left with the parents. the day of the shooting, a different teacher and a different classroom saw some behavior that they felt was concerning, and they brought the child down to an office, had a meeting with school officials, called in the parents, and ultimately determined that he could go back into class. and so that's obviously part of our investigation. we were never informed of either meeting prior to the

want to talk more about this now with oakland county sheriff micha michael bouchard. you mentioned earlier in your press conference, nobody is sleeping right now on your team. we appreciate you giving us a few moments here. i want to start with what we heard from the defense attorneys, you were engaged throughout yesterday and the evening, they say the couple wasn't fleeing, they were hiding out of fear for their safety. based on your experience do you put any stock into that claim? >> i find it pretty difficult to believe. fear for their safety from who? i mean, obviously if they were in communication with them and they knew they were at a secure location they could have divulged that, we would have sent deputies there. but instead we didn't get that, and so, you know, in any serious case where there's felony charges that have been levied we don't wait and tap on the front desk for them to come in the front door. we begin a very active fugitive investigation and look and find them to take them into custody, and that's exactly what happened here. and big kudos to our

joining me now is oakland county sheriff michael bouchard. sheriff, thank you for being with us.re so sorry for what your community is going through. if i can just ask you, we played that video which really is chilling there, those students apparently the person trying to get in the room there was the shooter, misrepresenting who he was and those students had the good sense to recognize that and flee. what does that tell you? >> well, i actually have heard about some of the videos, but we haven't seen them all, we're asking people to send them to us. a lot have been posted on social media. but based on what i saw last night, i went back to the school, and was there most of all night, and the evidence i've seen there shows he was very clearly trying to kill people. and so a ruse like this wouldn't have surprised me givend way he was acting. >> what is the latest on the condition of those who were injured? do you have any updates? >> you know, most of the remaining victims are stable, except two are critical. and one is extremely critical. so those are the two that we're watching.

i'm going to get the latest from the sheriff, michael bouchard. he joins us live. appreciate you joining us on cnn. give us the latest. where are the crumbleys? >> well, we have our fugitive team out and we are working in congestion with the united states marshals and the fbi, both regular and great partners any time we're looking for people that don't want to be found and so that's the process right now. as soon as we were told that the prosecutor had issued charges, we put our folks into motion. >> now, you -- the prosecutor says, and i saw you had a press conference last night or yesterday sometime with the prosecutor and she alluded to charges and she said there would be charges. you said there were eyes on the crumbleys. what happened, sheriff? >> no, i never said there were eyes on the crumbleys. what she said last night was she would make a charging decision. i didn't learn of any charges until this morning when a media outlet called and said that she had announced a press conference and then i called my commanders and the officer in charge of the investigat

michael bouchard, the sheriff in oxford county michigan, probably the biggest piece of news from this news conference was that the parents of the suspected shooter were called to the school the morning of the shooting and it was the second time they had been called in for a meeting about behavioral issues with their son. the sheriff said it was not directly related to a threat about a shooting but the parents were there and that he, the suspect, was brought in to the meeting. as far as the sheriff could tell at this point, he never left the school again after that he was sent back to the classroom. so that opens up a whole new sort of scenario and timeline for what happened. he also talked about the charges, seven counts of assault murder, 12 counts of possession. he's going to be arraigned via video momentarily. so obviously this is a tragic situation. you have the loss of four young people, four high school students, justin schilling, 17 year old, hana st. juliana, madysn baldwin and tate myre that died in the sheriff's vehicle on the way to the hospital. one young person was releas

. >> that is the sheriff of oakland county, michael bouchard there, having a press conference, close to the end. there are other people who will take questions, a mental health person. we're learning a 15-year-old acquired a gun. according to the sheriff it was bought a couple days ago, on november 26, by the boy's father. the boy is 15 years old. they said when they encountered the young man in the school, the folks who arrived, the police officers who arrived on the scene, they encountered him in the hallway with a loaded pistol, a sig sauer 9 millimeter loaded pistol. they say he came out of the bathroom. that's how it started, when he came out of the bathroom. by the time authorities got there, they said he was in the hall. they met him. he was walking down the hall with a loaded gun. he raised his arms and surrendered to them. carrying that loaded weapon. he is in custody. he is with his parents. his parents have told him not to talk to police. they've hired an attorney. they also said because he is a 15-year-old, they cannot identify him. they can't identify him because he's a

joining us now to talk about these security struggles, oakland county sheriff michael bouchard.you tell us about what the district is dealing with right now? >> well, unfortunately it is not just this district, it is districts all across the state and probably across the country. we have had over 135 threats against different school districts across our area. and oxford happens to be obviously one that is especially numb and especially raw from it. so i think they made the decision to close school until after the holiday break to give people a chance to calm their nerves and to make sure that people have a chance to process this unthinkable tragedy. we have checked out every one of these potential threats and deemed none of them to be imminent or credible. and we have arrested a lot of young people from making these threats. but that still doesn't calm a lot of the emotions for understandable reasons. >> you're saying it is mostly young people making the threats. can you tell us more about that? >> yes, ma'am. i know that already 17 have been criminally charged in oakland county

joining us now is oakland county sheriff michael bouchard. would release evidence today that she says will show that this crime could have been prevented. what do you know about this? >> well, one of the things that we're working on as we retrace the moments of that tragic day and thankfully because the school has such an incredible video system, we can really map out exactly and literally watch what the perpetrator did from the point where he left the office, from that meeting, and ultimately the shooting began until we took him into custody. so, you know, we have to believe that he had the weapon either on his person, in his backpack, or somewhere in that travel route and because the process never had him leaving the school. >> so he either had it in his backpack or picked it up somewhere in the school where he left it, correct? >> correct. >> and when the prosecutor says it could have been prevented, by whom then? >> well, you know, i'm not sure exactly what she means specifically to that because i didn't hear the context, but i think the
