nominee next year we're going to get michael cohen tonight's real time award. the sky. the light will come down. so must you why are you going to be singing. well today we have a true glimmer of hope surrounding a death penalty case out of texas which we covered earlier this week death penalty inmate duane buck was sentenced to die last night it's lawyers have been attempting to retry his case after the original testimony that sentenced him was deemed racially motivated psychologist by the name of dr walter testified that black people have a higher rate of violent behavior and that was used as a key piece of testimony but ultimately led the jury to sentenced to death over life in prison now is dr use that same argument in six other capital punishment trials around the same time as books and in those other cases the accused were given new trials but the texas parole board denied buck's request for clemency governor rick perry showed no signs of stopping his execution in fact perry was in iowa campaigning for the presidency when buck was set to die all hope was pretty muc

as director of real estate, but i have continued in that role as city administrator, along with michael cohenthe director, and now that position has been taken over. the agency formed this nonprofit. the agency agreed to provide staff for the entity. we applied for and received recognition as a community development entity, and we had to have that status before we could apply for the new markets tax credit. then in in february 2010, we put in our first application for an allocation of new markets tax credits, and we're very happy because oftentimes you do not get any allocation for your first application. we were very happy to have been awarded $35 million in tax credits. there are rules that apply to those where you have to spend them with then, i believe, 18 months. so for us, we have to get those allocations deployed into the community by september 30, 2013 or we will lose the ability to use those. our first allocation was to the college track project in the bayview. that was in the amount of $8.7 million in tax credits. that was a perfect example of why we wanted to form this non- profit

you know, i spoke to michael cohen who is trump's top political adviser. i just got off the phone with him and cohen said he spent some time with perry, as well. they talked about the economy and jobs and talked about family. all topics we would expect to come up during the conversation with donald trump. what is the take away from trump? cohen tells me that trump likes him as an individual and also likes what perry has done in texas, as far as creating jobs and also to make it a pro-business state. but donald trump is not ready to make any endorsements yet. as i said, mitt romney will be in new york in a couple weeks to meet with donald trump. kyra? >> he hasn't ruled out his own presidential bid, right? >> no, he is leaving that on the table. donald trump, if he endorses in this presidential election and that person gets the nomination and, of course, he says he won't run. but cohen tells me that they are preparing for trump to run in june of 2012, if you can imagine that. just a few months before the election would actually take place. that would happen

i just talked to my old friend, michael cohen, he's been working with this on me for 30 years, i guess now, and he told me that the national governor's association, the national association of the achieve's state school officers and achieve has developed a set of national education standards and 45 states have tentatively agreed to implement them. i would start with that. and then, if i were starting again, i would have a longer school year. and give more time on task. i would have every school open after school and on the weekends. we had no federal funding for that when i became president and we were sporting somewhere between $1.3 and 1.6 million kis in after-school programs when i left. i think that is really, really important. a lot of this is just time on task. particularly for kids whose first language is not english. a lot of this dropout rate is caused by kids reaching the eighth grade, and if they don't read well and can't assimilate the learning material, then why stay? it's boring. you can't learn. why -- if you show up for school and you feel like a failure every day. and
