michael cohen pleading guilty to lying to congress. cohen admitting he misled lawmakers about the moscow project during the 2016 campaign to protect mr. trump. more now from cnn's evan perez. >> reporter: dave and christine, the former fixer michael cohen, pleaded dpiguilty to congress o how much you knew about the moscow project and when it was terminated. telling the court he lied out of loyalty to the president. the man who once said he would take a bullet for the president, gave information to special counsel robert mueller during more than 70 hours of questioning between august and november. the deal to build a trump tower in moscow was one of the many topics discussed according to a source. the court documents revealed that quote cohen discussed the status and progress of the moscow project with trump. referred to as individual one on more than three occasions. while cohen told congress last fall that the moscow project ended in january of 2016, he now admits the discussions lasted until june of 2016. cohen now admits he made the false statements to protect donald trump and give the false impression that the project ended before the iowa caucus in hopes of lim

michael cohen pleading guilty to lying to congress. he admitted he misled the congress members about the trump tower moscow project during the 2016 campaign. let's get more from evandave and christine, michael cohen lied to congress about the deal over the trump tower moscow project and when it was terminated. telling the court he lied out of loyalty to the president. the plea agreement says the man who once said he would take a built for the president, gave testimony to mueller from august to december. the court documents revealed that quote cohen accused the -- discussed the status of the moscow project with trump referred to as individual one on more than four occasions. the moscow project ended in january of 2016, but now admits the project discussions lasted until june of 2016. cohen admits he made the false statements to protect trump and give the impression the project ended in hopes of limiting the ongoing russia investigation. cohen scrapped plans to travel to moscow ahead of the cleveland convention. the court papers indicate the work is not done yet for mueller. cohen will continue to work with prosecutors. dave and christine. >> evan, thank you. >>> on

michael cohen has now shared information with mueller's team at least seven different times. through the plea agreement, mueller has put on court record that cohen is telling the truth. ets go to let's go to evan perez. give me the details when cohen said initially the moscow deal failed to go through. >> reporter: right, brooke. according to michael cohen, one of the reasons why he made these false statements previously was because he was trying to align his statements, what he testified to to congress, to align it with what candidate trump and then later president trump had said about his ties to russia, that there were no such ties, that this entire investigation was a hoax, that there was no reason for it, there was no good reason for it to be investigated. according to michael cohen now, after january he not only continued to brief the president, the then candidate and now president multiple times, we don't know exactly how many times, but he also briefed members of the family, people in the trump organization and, according to the documents at least someone, one person, a senior person inside the campaign. that's a big deal simply because, as you said, the president -- and as the preside

want our lawyers to weigh in on what evan just told us. >> i think evan is clearly correct that the response is going to be that michael cohen is a liar, he's trying to save his own skin. that's going to be the response from the trump camp, however, one problem trump is going to have or that trump lawyers or whoever is responding is going to have is that in this document its not just michael cohen's statements that are referred to. there are emails here about the continuing negotiations over trump tower in may of 2016 after the iowa caucuses, after donald trump is the presurfi -- nomine. trump forces are going to have to explain if he's making all this up that the deal was still going on, why is there emails about the deal in may of 2016? >> the president and his supporters call everyone who contradicts the president a liar or there's this new line of argument that even people who have pleaded guilty to lying were forced to lie or that someone like paul manafort -- you've heard this story. these are the things that circulate that paul manafort was encouraged by the special counsel to lie and that's why he's not coopera

evan. but what if they have intelligence, though, from michael cohen, who has been called the most dangerousrson for the president of the united states? >> well, you can really contrast what's happening with paul manafort to what's happening with michael cohen, to what's happening with michael flynn, another michael people often forget. people have made much ado about the length of this investigation. their impatience with robert mueller, with not coming up with his report. but now we also see that not only does mueller have that zero tolerance for anyone lying, which shows that he must have some support to be able to understand that you are lying, something to compare or contrast to of somebody he does find credible. but look at this case. unlike michael flynn, who still has a carrot dangling in front of him to be a cooperator, unlike michael cohen who still has yet to be sentenced although he was handled in the district of new york, has yet to be sentenced. you've got a carrot dangling in front of him. now you have mueller done with paul manafort, wants him to be sentenced right away. he c
