seven on your sides michael finney joins us now with that. chael, this picks up where we left off last night. actually california insurance companies are underwriting fewer policies and even leaving the state. but why are these companies pulling back? the industry says it's because they can't make money. consumer activists say it's all a scheme to press lawmakers into deregulating the industry. what's happening up in sacramento in the waning weeks of the legislative session is a time tested tactic by big special interests and their allies in sacramento to get something done that will really hurt consumers. attorney harvey rosen field wrote prop 103, which regulates california's insurance industry. he he says he's been excluded from the insurance talks and says consumers are having the discussion hidden from them, too. i would call it an insurrection by the insurance industry, trying to overturn a law that the voters passed that the industry doesn't like, that is not everyone's. take karl sussman is a west los angeles insurance broker and exper

michael finney says that could soon change. he joins us now. michael, why could it change?very good way and people are going to actually start doing this right now. there are 500 data brokers registered in california. so having the right to ask them to stop and then actually having the time and wherewithal to get that done are two different things. but soon california consumers may be empowered. data brokers keep track of the important events in your life and mundane details to. they then sell that information. in california, you have the legal right to have your information deleted. but with hundreds of websites to navigate, that has been more aspirational than actually doable. but that may soon change because of california senate bill 362, authored by san mateo state senator josh becker. >> so the idea here is really simplify and let's just say operationalize this and really give us control in an actual practical way, which is a one stop shop, hit one button and delete your information from all data brokers. >> so it's like a do not call list, like that. >> yeah, yeah, li

going up substantially today, major changes were announced in sacramento. >> seven on your side's michael finneyeen keeping track of all this and joins us with more. michael >> yeah. citing global weather change, governor gavin newsom and insurance commissioner ricardo lara today handed a huge victory to the insurance industry, one they could not win in the legislature the day started with the governor signing an executive order urging insurance commissioner lara to take swift action to address issues with the insurance market and swift he was this afternoon, the commissioner announced a major overhaul of california's property insurance regulations. >> as you know, there's no doubt that california is at an insurance crossroads, making california making insurance more available is becoming critical for our entire economy. with the climate crisis. coupled with historic inflation, we are truly living in unprecedented times. >> among the changes, insurance companies will be able to base their rates on what could happen as seen through computer modeling rather than what has happened in the past. it c
