his co-speakerer is michael birkner, the benjamin franklin professor of liberal arts and history at gettysburg college. many of you might remember that michael was the interim director of the civil war institute. he played a pivotal role in the transition. there is not a person on this faculty that i rely more on than michael birkner. he has been indispensable to what i have done here, what my staff has done, the way we've been able to connect with gettysburg college students. and there are students who adore him, and this is the highest praise you can give a teacher. i hear time and time again that michael birkner's class on historical message is called a boot camp. and the kids who come out of that boot camp -- i, of course, have them in other courses, are exceedingly well trained and come back to me time and again and say michael is their favorite professor and he is a man with exceedingly high standards. i am very pleased to have two very dear friends to speak about a book they edited with the university press of florida. did i get that right? no, i didn't. i did get it right. okay. good.
