news 4's michael george has been working up details. what can you tell us? >> reporter: the cab driver was called here to this neighborhood late last night to make a pickup and co-workers tell me someone was waiting for him. the cab driver was shot in the head in his own cab. right now the killer is still on the loose. for the cab driver, was supposed to be a routine pickup. >> i just seen him friday -- i saturday. everything was fine. we cracked jokes, smoke a cigarette here and there. the guy was an amazing guy. >> reporter: emad had come to this quiet neighborhood around 11:00 p.m. tuesday night. prosecutors say someone shot him in the head and emad's cab kept moving, hitting two parked cars and injuring two people inside. emad's co-workers at station cab were told this was an attempted robbery and they believe emad fought back. >> he was definitely a stand-up guy. he wasn't a pushover. so that's a shame. >> reporter: detectives continue to search the scene for evidence. emad was from edison. children. his co-workers say he would make long hours to make s

. >> michael george is outside the courthouse to fill us in. michael? >> reporter: we just learned that former detective will spend the next two years in state prison. he was found not guilty of the more serious charges, but was convicted of assault, coercion and some lesser charges. prosecutors say he has never shown any remorse for what happened that day. >> anything you would like to say? >> reporter: just minutes after he learned he was headed to state prison for two years, we tried to talk with former detective, wojciech braszczok, but he wouldn't comment. braszczok was one of the bikers in this video now seen around the world. after an altercation with the driver, the suv takes off and runs over a biker. the mob gives chase on the west side highway. prosecutors say braszczok was one of the first to start the attack. breaking a window and kicking the doors. he wasn't part of the mob that brutally beat alex lien, but prosecutors say braszczok watched it happen and left without calling for help. the defense said braszczok has accepted responsibility,

michael george has new details that are coming out. >> reporter: rob, all night, we've been talking to neighbors. they have only one question. just what happened to the one-month-old? this was a homicide. police are investigating the possibility that the baby was thrown from a window on the fourth floor. it's the kind of tragedy that defies logic and common sense. >> oh, my god. it's hard to believe that . it's a baby. >> reporter: the baby's body was found in this courtyard at 4:00 a.m. detectives are looking into whether the baby was thrown from the fourth floor window to the concrete below. a neighbor found the baby. >> i step out and hear like a book was thrown out the window. for some reason, something told me to go outside. then i see that. >> reporter: she called 911 right away. emts responded, but it was too late to save the one-month of old. all day, detectives were at the scene, trying to piece together what happened. >> it was very, very hard for us. it's terrible. >> reporter: neighbors told us the family living here is quiet and they rarely talk to others. no one has been

news 4's michael george is at the scene tonight to explain. michael. >> reporter: well, rob, just ai horrible tragedy here. behind me officers are still on the scene, just trying to find out what happened to the infant. investigators tell me they're looking into the possibility this baby was thrown from a fourth floor window. so far, no one has been arrested, but police are questioning family members and others who live here. here's what we know. around 4:00 a.m., someone called 911 to report they found the infant's body in the courtyard at 115th street. he was just 1 month old, unconscious and unresponsive, and tragically, it was too late for emts to save him. his name was rizwan ahmad. we spoke to the neighbor who discovered the baby after she went outside to get fresh air. here's what she told us. >> well, i stepped out and i window. and for some reason, something told me inside to go downstairs. and then i see that. >> reporter: investigators tell us they have no previous history of abuse, but the family that lives here in this apartment, o

news 4's michael george raced to the scene in patterson as soon as we got word this happened. michael, what do we know? >> reporter: well, david, this is not an easy fire to fight. take a look at the damage it did to those homes here. fighters were fighting this one and then they were able to save a dog trapped in one of the burning buildings, and our cameras were there when the dog was reunited with his family. battling two fires at once. firefighters were in a perilous position, trying to save seven homes while dealing with heat and humidity. thankfully, no civilians hurt. one family's dog was trapped inside a burning home, scared to come out. firefighters put their own lives in danger to bring the dog to safety and back to his anxious family's arms. >> the dog was inside the house. the fire took 30 minutes. and when they found him, thank god he's safe. >> reporter: it started with four homes burning on this patterson street. as firefighters fought that fire, another fire started a block away, consuming three more homes. when it was all over, 31 residents were displaced. >> n

news 4's michael george has more. >> reporter: shiba, that cab driver pulled up right here last night in this quiet neighborhood, but it wasn't a passenger waiting for him. someone shot and killed him in his own cab, and what's believed to be an attempted robbery. tonight that cab driver's wife and ten children are wondering why someone would kill him. >> he's the best person in the world. he's the best person in the world. >> reporter: heartbreak for the wife of taxi driver ahmad al i seemar, doing his job, working long hours to provide for his ten kids when someone shot and killed him. we spoke with his son outside their home in edison. >> if there was a way to, like, take my head and put it on his body and have him alive instead of me, i would be more than happy. >> reporter: it seemed to be a routine pickup. ahmad arrived on bedford street around 11:00 p.m. tuesday. but someone was waiting for him. ahmad was shot in the head, and the shooter took off. prosecutors won't speculate on a motive, but co-workers were told it was an attempted robbery and say ahmad was the type to fight b

news 4's michael george has the story. >> reporter: these happened in gramercy and a room here at the grand hyatt hotel. they share two things in common, the brutal nature of the attack and each time the victima cu her attacker online. three gang rapes, three cations. police say three men are responsible. one has already been arrested they're still looking for these two men. isaiah rivera and joey cruz. >> very, very frightening. this is a safe neighborhood pretty much. >> reporter: investigators say the first attack was in june in the bronx then it happened two more times last week. once in a room at the grand high at hotel and once in gramercy. each time they were lured to the location after agreeing to meet one of the men online. >> not totally surprised. >> reporter: investigators say in two of the attacks the victim was tied up, maced and raipd by the men. they also robbed them. it's a string of vicious assaults. >> they better get out and get these people. >> reporter: police are hoping someone knows the two remaining suspects. if you have any information, contact the authoritie

michael george has made his way to one of the flood zones. what's happening? >> we are still on our way to the flooded out areas, but getting video and pictures sent in from viewers in some of the hardest hit zones. let's look at some of that right now. we've got pictures coming in from somerset and union county, scotch plains, berkeley heights, all along the route 22 and 78 corridor. they're dealing with this mess right now. a lot of roads closed. a lot of cars stuck in the water. a retaining wall collapsed, crushing several cars. it's still a mess out there. the good news is, we haven't heard any reports of injuries bu t right now officials are trying to get a handle on things and get people to safe areas if they are in that zone right now. there are a lot of major roads those areas that we discussed that are closed. so even getting around is difficult right now. you can see some of the videos and photos that we're getting from our viewers still coming in now so we can tell you this is still a problem here even though the rain has subsided in some areas. thi
