this afternoon, the minister for the cabinet office, michael gove, announced an investigation into claimscode. mr speaker, this government always takes any complaints relating to the ministerial code seriously and in line with the process set out in the ministerial code, the prime minister has asked the cabinet office establish the facts. but we can now reveal details of a further claim, this time from priti patel‘s period as employment minister in the department for work and pensions. 0ur documents allege that a junior staff member had already felt bullied in the department and taken an overdose. a year later, when ms patel was a minister, the staff member had told her line manager about a medical problem she was struggling with. her grievance letter claims the next day priti patel shouted at her to get lost and get out of herface. she was then dismissed. shortly after, the staff member took an overdose of prescription medication in the office. the letter said she was taken home where she took another overdose in what is described as an attempt to kill herself, and was rushed to hospital
