congressman michael grimm represents many in the borough and joins me now. congressman, thank you for joining me. >> yes, thank you for having me. >> it seems that finally, the attention is centered on staten island where it should have been, many would argue, three, four days ago. why has it been so belated, the help that you so desperately needed? >> you know, i don't know exactly, but take the red cross for an example. they called three days ago and they started to drive, they have very big trucks that they bring up that are packed with gear and they did drive from down south, it took them three days to drive through the night, they drove straight through but it takes two, three days for them to get those trucks here. that's one example. right now at this point, we're not worried about why they didn't get here. we're just glad they're here and we're helping them to coordinate so they can be as effective as possible immediately and get these people that are suffering all the things that they need. >> did you expect the red cross to do more? many people up

i spoke to congressman michael grimm who represents this part of staten island.e said that this borough has become the forgotten borough. he was very critical, as others have been, of the red cross. he said that the red cross has not been as responsive as they have been in disasters past. we got a statement a short time ago from the red cross. they say that they've got ten vehicles headed from new york city to staten island. they say that one of the problems has been traffic. traffic, as you know, still bumper to bumper in new york city. but again, folks here becoming very frustrated with the response. the death toll on staten island now at 19. and officials say they expect that number to rise. >> all right, craig, thank you very much. >>> and in hoboken, new jersey, just across the hudson river from new york city, the national guard on location there since yesterday are worried that supplies are now running low. nbc's katy tur is with us. it was a sign of hope for so many people yesterday when the national guard arrived, helping them out. they continue to help,
