let's get back to brussels and my colleague michael holmes in the belgian capital. at. well, as the investigation in brussels continues to unfold, we're seeing much of what happened after the november o'tacks in paris repeat itself just in a new setting. our nina dos santos got an exclusive interview with former friends of the abdeslam brothers. and the name abdeslam of course now notorious and forever tied to the bloodshed last november. and you got some good access to his -- their inner circle if you like, and they painted a remarkable picture. tell us about it. >> reporter: yeah, their inner circle here in brothers. we're talking about a very sort of sleepy street in the molenbeek part of town which is where the abdeslam brothers lived. they actually owned a cafe and had many friends in the area. two friends in particular, michael, spoke exclusively to me and the picture they painted was one of disaffected young youths. many of them had been to prison, spent some time dealing drugs, soft drugs, et cetera, et cetera. and they felt they said that with the abdeslam b

i'm michael holmes on a cold and windy day here., merging at home and abroad in connection to tuesday's deadly attacks. belgian authorities have charged faysal c. with murder among other count, but they're. saying exactly what role he may have played in the plot. italian police say they, too, have made an arrest. they apprehended an algerian national on suspicion that he forged documents for the operatives in the brussels attacks. what's more, that man was already wanted in belgium on suspected links to the paris attacks back in november. >>> the victims in brussels came from all over the world. citizens of the u.k., china, france, and the u.s. all confirmed to be among the dead. 40 nationalities in all were affected by the tragedy. a spokesman for the belgian foreign ministry spoke to our alexandra field about the victims. >>> well, we have one big advantage here in brussels, is that almost all countries are represented in the capital. it's a huge diplomatic capital. we have the european union and nato here. the contact with differ

cnn's michael holmes has the latest on the investigation and who was arrested where and what led authorities to them. bring us up to speed, michael. >> reporter: i will by bringing you new information, christine. authorities have raised the death toll now from 31 to 34. we understand that does include the three suicide bombers we know about. the death toll was 28 plus the three suicide bombers. now it is 31 plus the three suicide bombers. new information there. you mentioned the raids. many over the last 24 hours. 13 in brussels alone on sunday. more people taken into custody as part of the investigation into the attacks. we know after a tip-off from french investigators, 32-year-old french citizen was arrested in the netherlands on sunday. that arrest tied to the arrest of another man picked up last week described as being in the advance stages of planning an attack on french soil. we saw the algerian picked up accused of making false documents. this points to the breadth and complexity of the web of isis sympathizers. we saw the ugly scenes in the square behind me. the place de la borst. t

michael holmes is following all the developments for us from brussels and he joins us now. michael, bring us up to speed with the latest. what are we hearing from authorities? >> reporter: yeah, isha, we do have that news that the man known as faycal c., who had been arrested and then charged with things like terrorist murder and attempted terrorist murder has now been released after a magistrate said the evidence against him didn't stack up. meanwhile, you've got authorities here continuing to look for two key suspects. that third airport bomber, a possible second man involved in the metro attacks. but they're not the only ones being hunted. the manhunt continues for the third unidentified bomber at the brussels airport and a second man believed to have been involved in the metro attack. they're among at least eight suspects authorities are still searching for throughout europe in connection to last tuesday's blasts. police have carried out raids every day since the attacks and rounding up what they allege are members of a wider terrorism cell. three men were charged in bel

i'm here with michael holmes who has been reporting on this. it's a city going about it's business but there are many stores going about their business. i was out in molenbeek where a lot of these men live. it was very muted there today. there were additional raids. it is a race against time. if the noose does tighten on those two men they're looking for, will they strike again and soon? >> that is a concern. we heard from belgium prosecutors yesterday there could be more than these two. you've got the guy, the supposed second bomber or second involved person at the metro station, then you've got the man in the hat, the man in that white jacket in the hat at the airport who left the suitcase full of explosives and it didn't go off and he left. the belgium prosecutors are saying there could be more. there's several people they think could be out there. >> of course going through that neighborhood, you know, you talk to people, they're not surprised. people harbor these people. people are hiding these people. they say of course that's what they'r
