philadelphia, pope francis stopped to bless and kiss the forehead of that young man there, 10-year-old michael keating who has cerebral palsy, and keating father's chuck is the band director for the bishop shanahan band who performed for the pope as he arrived. and just across town, millions gathered where pope francis will speak hours from now at the world family congress, and we have lots of people to talk with and we have kasie hunt and claudio villain ga -- -- vilanga, and what are people saying there after that visit to the cathedral? >> well, people are here, and they are a little bit disappointed, because this basilica was filled with thousands of people, and they were all hoping to get a glimpse of pope francis, and not once but twice, and hoping that pope francis as he does often go to greet them and touch the hands and have a little chat with them, and now hundreds of them have been here since the early hours of the morning, and we got here at 5:00 in the morning, and what many of them got to see is him arriving here in the little fiat, and pope francis turned, and they were all waving, and

he made an unexpected stop to bless a boy in a wheelchair, michael keating suffers from cerebral palsys father is a band director at the high school. >> i almost fell over. excitement. i'm overjoyed. i can't even think straight. >> he kissed him on the forehead and prayed on him. it was such a blessing for us. >> keating directed the high school band as they played the rocky theme for pope francis as he got off the plane. next stop for the pope is the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. he was greeted by a crowd of thousands. he stopped to wave before he went inside. 2,000 people attended the mazda. he said the future of the catholic church requires a more active role for lay catholics for women and young people. he stopped to bless several children before leaving the basilica. security remains high. at one point today a man was taken into custody after hope francis arrived at the basilica. the man was acting suspiciously, asking questions about security. from the streets to water ways, 50 different organizations are helping keep people safe. the u.s. coast guard is patrolling

his name is michael keating. overnight, we spoke with his family. it's the moment that changed a family's life. you can see the pope stopping his fiat and making a beeline for the keating family, including 10-year-old michael, who has cerebral palsy. when he got out of that car, what was that like for you? >> it's amazing. he came over and right away, he went over and kissed michael on the forehead. he grabbed my hand and gave it a i was just crying happy tears and i just feel so inspired. >> reporter: michael's father, chuck, the director of the high school band that greeted francis at the airport, brought michael so that he could simply be in the pope's presence. ever happen. >> reporter: but it did. what do you remember most about the experience? >> after the pope blessed michael, michael just smiled really big. >> so much joy surrounded michael and i think he feels that. and we like, that's wonderful. angels were singing. >> reporter: kristen and chuck adopted michael and his twin brother chris as infants, knowing that michael had a disability.

. >> reporter: two hours before he left new york city we introduced our audience to michael keating. -old twin son of bishop shannahan band leadser chuck keating. we figured if the high school band's rocky theme didn't grab the pope's is th's attention we figured michael would. he then when the pope arrived, and the car stopped, guess what happened? i was telling you guys this was going to happen a couple hours ago. did you think it was going to happen. >> no, i thought he wasn't going to turn, when he got in the car i didn't think he was going to come back here. when he did i was so shocked. >> i don't know if there's an easy way to describe it. i could say beautiful. i could say loving, warm. it's life changing it truly was and the fact that i just feel so fortunate that -- so fortunate that michael was, you know, blessed by the pope. >> i knew he was just going immediately come back to my brother. >> when i said thank you to him, he looked up and that's when he grabbed my hand and then he saw my husband and he grabbed his hand and then he put his hand back on michael. >> reporter:

that lucky boy was michael keating. he was with his parents, sister and his twin brothers. the parents of 10-year-old michael say the pope came over to kiss him and bless him. this was the moment when he stopped his car within just moments of ready to come into center city and he just saw this child and that child called to him. >>> the fact that the pope kissed him on the head and blessed him is something i would have never imagined possible for any of my children. >> there's so many things going through my head, what is happening. i'm still processing the whole moment. >> i was just so happy, and like so amazed he came out of his car to bless may brother, so happy. >> reporter: pope francis then arrived at the basilica after a quick ride from the airport at the steps he was greeted by former pennsylvania governor tom corbett and his wife susan. then i send the steps with steps along the way to wave to the joy crowd inside the crowd of the basilica the pope made his way up the center aisle nodding and offering blessings to the clergy and faithful inside. powerful put images
