michael lee, thank you very much.rs from both sides of the aisle are set to begin border security negotiations today. the bipartisan conference committee has until february 15th to reach a deal to avoid another government shut down. tiyana, good morning. what concessions, and that's the big word, what concessions are both sides willing to make here? >> i think republicans have made it clear that they're offering operating in somewhat good faith. they proposed bringing the three year extension for daca recipients and tps holders. democrats, not so much. they said they will not pay for the wall under any circumstances. i think this is the moment in which republican messaging becomes so important. they need to focus and make it a bun dauntly clear to the american -- abundantly clear to the american people they're looking for a safe, humane, ethical way of taking care of the people who are in the country and making sure that more people don't come in. while democrats are resorting to what could be seen as open borderborde

let's bring in joe shroka and michael lee. thanks for hanging around.e watching futures. a lot of the pressure is not just the imf forecast for global growth, the downside there, but also the data coming outs of china about slowing gdp there. michael, but overall the u.s. picture seems to be at risk right now as we're getting this report about the fact that investors are moving to cash. if they would have done that a month ago, they were missing a rally. what's going on, michael? >> you know, i would say investors moving to cash is about as bullish as you can get. the last time we had this type of inflow into cash was the end 2008 and since then the s&p 500 is up four-fold. so i'd also be cautious on the data because money market funds being tracked by lipper, sure a large amount of the cash going into those money march fund gets coming directly from checking accounts where you typically get no interest on your deposits. you can go into a money market fund, buying short-term treasuries, you can make over 2%. i would say whenever you see an influx in cas

companies, apple, facebook, also reporting later on this week, joining me right now market strategists, michael leebe positioning ahead of big week, of course, the earnings period? >> well, look, i think you have to have exposure to u.s. stocks, it's a matter of how aggressive you want to be. what i'm looking for are we going to punish all of the losers the same or are we going to award the winners, is there going to be diversion between winners and losers or everything move in unison. maria: yeah, but i mean, you see a change in this market with the federal reserve on hold, correct? friday we get article in the journal basically saying, look, they may not necessarily be on hold for raising interest rates, they may actually be on hold in terms of the balance sheet unwind, is that a positive? >> you know, i think that will give you a short-term benefit but in the long run that would be horrific. i mean, your play

lee ann, michael, carrie and cornell. it's interesting here.t to put up when candidates get in on the 2016 race. it was cruz first. the senators all got in first. cruz, paul, rubio. then jeb bush and donald trump got in in june. hillary clinton announced in april. i think bernie sanders right around the same time. we're in announcement season now, aren't we? >> of course. and people are already making trips. people are already working on putting their staffs together. making those kind of early telephone calls to activists in early primary states. and we know we're going to have debates starting in june. we are not very far out from those debates starting. i think there is an imperative for some of the candidates who don't necessarily know what their fund raising ability is going to be like to get in earlier. one of the big demands is they want somebody who can solicit a lot of small dollar do nations. the later people get in, the harder it is to do. i think that's part of the push to get in early is i want to make sure that i can prove to peop

let's get the read now from market watcher michael lee. think the markets were telling us through all of this? >> that what we got from the end of september up until christmas eve was just an overdone selloff, and that growth fears going into 2019 were a little too great. look, the shutdown, i mean, if you're working right now and not getting a paycheck, that's terrible, but in the grand scheme of things, i don't think it really moves the dial for overall growth in the entire country unless this were to continue on much longer and if it does continue on much longer, a lot of government employees in theory will go out and get private sector jobs, which will then increase productivity and increase -- could in the end be a net positive for the government but that's if we were to continue on much, much longer and it doesn't seem like that's going to be the case. neil: do the markets just struggle when they look at government disruptions? they're not fans of the market -- a lot of them were after the meltdown when they wanted a lot of help from

someone was indeed trying to rig the polls and it was michael cohen and according to him, trump directed him to do it. m.j. lee is with me now. stunning piece in "the wall street journal" today. >> stunning and bizarre. donald trump does love to complain about polls being rigged if they are not favorable to him but he's okay with them apparently if they're being rigged to help him. "the wall street journal" story says that michael cohen enlisted a man named john gogger. he works at liberty university and is also the head of a tech company to rig these online polls to help donald trump look better. for example, a cnbc poll in 2014 that ranked business leaders, a drug poll that ranked the republican presidential potentials. now in early 2015, this man went to trump tower to collect $50,000 from michael cohen for the services that he provided. now, this is where the story gets very, very strange. michael cohen apparently handed john gogger a cash bag, this is a walmart bag that had some 12,000 to $13,000 in it instead of the full $50,000 payment. even though gogger says he was only paid this $12,000, michael cohe
