joining me now is michael moore who covers goldman sachs for us.efore we get into the house and wise, give us the genesis of this story. what is going on with glencore and how is goldman involved in that? michael: over the last five months, they are down about 75%. goldman sachso, was envious of glencore, of their business model, of the lack of regulation they had to deal with. there was internal presentations where they said maybe we should start to look more like glencore, get into more of the physical assets, mining, this region of these commodities. they were and the us of the multiples glencore was getting in the stock market, and the way they were able to poach some of the traders. mark: the nuts and bolts of this includes that congress was looking for ways that commodities wouldn't be taking over a firm like goldman. sharon brown, a democrat from ohio has his finger prints all over this. talk to us about what he was sponsoring, what he was suggesting to stop that. michael: goldman never got to a neck that plan of looking like glencore becaus

good terms with people on the other side and i think this is something that distinguishes me from michael moore. he never has intelligence on the other side. he wants to make it seem that the only people on the other side. i think that's not only on the liberal camp on the radical camp you have intelligent passionate people, and i like to bring them out and then have their say. we build up the trust. it turns turned out to be an extremely influential person. not only of the current president barack obama but also of hillary clinton and here's what i mean. obama comes to america and starts making his home in chicago during the hawaii and indonesia y. chicago. they then go on to wellesley college and find who writes the thesis. the generation could be the guiding influence on the two successive presidents of the united states. >> and in your view is that dangerous? >> it would be a mobster style of politics in fact there are studies on the alcatel and mob that they studied gangs in chicago and expressed admiration for the way that they can extract money for people i using threats of intimidation.

michael moore has been talking to wall street executives, will we see push back or protest from top executiveschael: i don't think you will. wall street defended themselves in the past against critiques, but it is hard to go against the pope so i think they will take the conciliatory approach, welcome him, i think some of the leaders will try to show him the philanthropy that is done in new york. scarlet: including the $175 million restoration of patrick -- st. patrick's cathedral. michael: the pope will be leading prayers there, so that will certainly be an item on their list to point out. i think they are hoping for probably a more neutral tone for the pope. i don't think he will come out praising wall street but perhaps a more neutral tone will be a win. scarlet: maybe he will dial it down. when has pope francis said capitalism on wall street? incometalked about inequality, but has he attacked the pursuit of profit specifically? michael: he is talked about being over focused on profits, he has talked about reining in the speculative practices, he has not gone to strong at wall street but wa

michael regan is joining us, and kate moore from j.p. morgan private bank. mike: i would like to bring it back to the vxix. the volatility is becoming its own catalyst now. a lot of the focus is coming to these risk parity strategies, in an attempt to outfox your traditional 60-40 pension style investment, they create an ideal portfolio to reduce the sharpe ratio, and then they lever up on futures in stocks. tom: this gets to the heart of the matter. is the roulette wheel of the end of august and early september -- is that -- are we beholden to the hedge funds? are they the ones driving the cart? michael: not just hedge funds. tom: the market pros. michael: it is not identical strategies, but they are similar enough that it appears like a crowded trade -- with the volatility as low as it is people got complacent, and now volatility has whipped up, and they are pulling back the leverage to less volatile portfolios. that might be a temporary phenomenon. the question is, obviously the economic data globally is weakening as well, so it is unclear how much of the
