let's begin with cnn meteorologist chad myers with the new advisory on hurricane michael. >> still a 90 miles per hour storm. hurricane hunter aircraft in there now john investigating finding slightly higher gusts. we will watch the pressure. fit goes down, that means the wind speed is going to go up. right now, 90. that's the good news. we are not waking up to a category three storm. we may tomorrow. that is the forecast. 120-mile-per-hour wind making land fall near panama city. that's where these wind gusts will be the highest. that's where the wind damage will also be the highest from that land falling storm. somewhere aroundcal tomorrow morning you will begin to feel close to hurricane strength gusts. here we go. this is this morning. tuesday, wednesday, wednesday afternoon, finally up into parts of georgia. here's how the ball shapes up here. these are tropical storm force winds by 6:00 tomorrow morning. you are not going to be able to do more work outside, no more prep work tomorrow morning, it needs to be done today. the red dot, that's the hurricane force wind over panama cit

. >> our meteorologist chad myers is in the cnn weather center. what is the latest on michael?istine, we are not waking up to a category three hurricane yet. you see the band of lighter color through there. that is dry air. that is good news. we don't want this to be stronger than 90. that would be an amazing landfall. that would be a near miss. it still will be a storm. if this continues in the water for 30 more hours, it is certainly getting to the chance of the 120 mark. that is where the landfall forecast is. 120 miles per hour. close to panama city beach or apalaicola. back to pensacola. you will see hurricane conditions in the next 36 hours in the red zone. it goes all the way to albany, georgia. we are not going to lose an a lot of intensity -- lose a lot of intensity after landfall. tallahassee, you need to prepare for trees falling down. this happens every time. st. marks, prepare for storm surge. 12 feet. i was there for a vivan. if you have ever been there, the nicest town you have seen. this place here will certainly see that intense surge here and intense wind here

we are tracking michael from every angle this morning. let's begin with chad myers with more. as jim mentioned at the top, more warm water to go over. that's the concern about the acceleration into a category 3. >> that's how it got where we are right now. that water near cozumel is even two degrees warmer than what it's in, and that's why it just snapped into action. now, the good news is the gulf of mexico isn't very big. so we don't have four more days to watch this thing turn into a cat-5. by the time we're talking about landfall, somewhere between 24 and maybe 30 hours from right now, it's going to gather more strength, but not as much as it could. it still could be a cat-4, no question about that. this 120 is plus or minus 10%. keep that in mind. so the direction is also 10% plus or minus east or west from panama city. here's the storm in its full view, in visible satellite mode. 100-mile-per-hour storm, but the aircraft flying through it did just find a 105-mile-per-hour gust. we'll see what they do with the storm at 11:00. so 120 miles per hour, afternoon tomorrow, mak

michael, still way o into the gulf. u can see the bands and the surf. we've had storm surge flooding from down around ft. myers. that's already during. you can really see it is getting itself together. right around the eye, it is up to 120 miles an hour and movin to the north at 12 miles an hour. florence was traveling two o three miles an hour. not moving fast at all. you take that. just 12 hours. that's 150 miles. that means this rain won't be nearly as big of a factor ashe storm surge and the winds. 3.ssibly a category a high end category 3. ssibly even a category 4. this is going to cause some major havoc. let's talk more about it. i wanto show you, that's under hurricane warnings and that extends. tropical sto warnings all the way down, close to tampa. all the way toward macon, georgia, salve an, a charleston under a tropical storm warning and then the tropical watches. maybe up to 60 miles per hour all the way along this path and of course, this was the are hit by florence. so yeah. they'll get some bignd time eight to 12 feet. twice as high as i am. trees down everywhere. a lot of forest here. the impact

michael. no longer a hurricane. still, though, perhaps damaging and a threat to some parts of the country. let's bring in chad myers. >> still capable of bringing down trees. it went right over the augusta national golf course, now going over south carolina in places now that are saturated from florence that was there just a few weeks ago. so still 50 miles an hour. still raining in many spots. charlotte, columbia, you will see rain much of the day. eventually this thing goes out to sea. but d.c., you will pick up a lot of rain today. also the south towns there around d.c. may pick up around four inches of rain fall. that's where we're going to see most of that flooding possibility today. so on monday it was an 80 miles an hour storm. by monday at 10:00 a.m., it was forecast to be a major hurricane at 1:20 in that exact location. but they got the up and down wrong. remember i said yesterday you can be plus or minus 10%. they were plus or minus 20%. we always know the direction forecast is better than the speed direction. so we're worried about mexico beach. we are worried about the areas we haven't even heard from

michael gaining strength in the caribbean, taking aim at florida's panhandle. >> 26 counties across florida are under a state of emergency as the storm is gaining strength and nearing the coast. chad myersit all. what are we looking at? >> looking at landfall somewhere between 50 and 60 hours from now, which doesn't leave you a lot of time to prepare or get down to your home and do something to it or put away even the patio furniture if you're not living right there. this is a storm right now at 70 miles per hour, likely today, turns into hurricane michael. it's already raining in the keys but this is not a keys event. this is a panhandle event from apalachicola to pensacola, and maybe tallahassee. that would be a lot of wind and knocking down trees in that area here. hurricane hunter just found a wind speed of 66, not a hurricane yet, but later on today, it will get stronger. in very warm water in the gulf of mexico. it's bath water in there still. it's october, but this is some of the warmer air, warmer water around here. 110-mile-per-hour storm by wednesday after midnight tuesday. you see how close and quick this is because the gulf isn't very big. with most of the storms we see them
