now, the irony here, of course, is that city mayor michael nutter -- and that's why the politics getcomplicated. as both camps are trying to create distinctions, they keep stumbling over the fact that there's a whole lot of bipartisan defense in the drebt direction of policy. mitt romney questioned the efficacy of reducing class size. and then people say class size is a sacred cow that we have to take a look at. and the data is a little inconclusive on class size i'll say having dipped into it recently. and then you have michael nutter going after romney for, you know, his education vision while in philadelphia is the site of this very ambitious massive project in essentially breaking up the central school district. they've hired a boston group to come up with the plan and they're going to try to create competition among different entities that would manage different schools. so it doesn't look like that different from the basic outlines of the vision that mitt romney is employing. how much is privatization? how much of that is driving? >> i think a lot of it is headed there. many pe

pulling up outside of a school where he was holding an event, and just greeted by protesters, mayor michael nutter had plenty to say. alicia, the polls show mitt romney doing, i don't even think the word poorly suffices. i've used at official term womping vis-a-vis the president among black community in this country. he is losing 88 to 2% among hispanics. the spread is about 34%. here is my question. why now and why west philadelphia? if you are a romney adviser, why west philadelphia? >> similarly there was this coalition of latino business leader who's met at the chamber of commerce and everyone gave a speech on business. romney got up this week and gave a speech on education. they've decided they want to find places where they can push in education. choosing to do it in minority communities makes sense because they have room to gain in the communities, it will be on this issue. that said, the way mitt romney chooses to talk about these issues is a problem. he's so condescending, talking to african-americans about how they need to raise their children in two-parent households. this is not the wa

michael nutter went after romney as well. >> i think that part of the problem is there is a flip-floptil recently romney was talking about cutting education budgets. even eliminating the department of education or melding it into another department. where is he coming from? i think there is concern about that. a lot of what he's saying has already been said by president obama and acted on by him so it is kind of interesting. >> one of the pushback issues was the issue of unions. romney accused of president of basically benn being in bed with the unions and his people came out and said that couldn't be further from the truth. he's talk about charter schools. if you're in a room full of teachers, they are on the attack as soon as you bring that up. >> yeah. i can't imagine anybody accusing president obama of not having taken on the unions. he's definitely taken them on head on and taken a lot of flak for it and it is an issue to be addressed. there are a lot of broader issues. we have to talk about more funding. particularly for the public schools. i think. >> thank you for joining us.
