joining us now is michael nutter, the former mayor of philadelphia and has endorsed michael bloomberg the program. first, if i can -- >> thank you, jim, poppy. >> the new reporting we have, mj lee reporting allegations about sexist comments that mr. bloomberg made going back to the 1990s. what is your response and is the candidate willing to apologize for the comments? >> i think as you know mike has indicated in the past and currently that many of those comments certainly were inappropriate. some may have been rude or crude. others he has denied because they're not true. and so these are things that have been well litigated many, many years ago. he did run for mayor three times, and many of these issues came up at that time. but it will not be a surprise. i mean, ray charles could see that he's the new candidate on the debate stage. the other candidates kind of like paranh will be coming after him. he will be humble and direct. i don't think anyone should take for granted that michael bloomberg is a pretty tough guy. he was mayor three terms in new york city, and so he will be ready.

joining me is michael nutter, former mayor of philadelphia, national campaign co-chair of bloomberg. you. >> good to see you, ali. >> forget about what he did and didn't do. you were the mayor of a major city and like new york has more gun violence than it would like to have. what is your view on stop and frisk? >> first, it is not new. virtually every city in the united states of america uses some form of when constitutionally allowed police tactic. as in your intro, new york city was already using stop and frisk at some level when mike became mayor. philadelphia was using stop and frisk when i became mayor. mike did talk about it more. i did, as as i was coming into offices. and so t is one tool in a wealth of tools that please can use and the focus is on public safety to change the mindset of a man who would normally carry a wepn to get them to not carry that weapon and not take that out of the house. >> mike's a statistics guy. the idea is if you're committed to getting guns off the streets, you mathematically do it, you may come out with a formula that targets the black and brow

michael nutter, you hear bloomberg.ly not enough to satisfy his democratic opponents, though he is polling well with african-american voters. is there more he can or should do to address that? because i think back in 2018, he was still supporting stop-and-frisk. >> well, anderson, as you well know in this work, first of all, you're in a campaign. so opponents are going to seize on anything that they can. but i think, more importantly, yes, there are things that mike can do. he will continue to talk about this, as you played the clip. that was literally last night. there are conversations still to be had with folks who were affected, negatively, by the policy and practice in new york city. and i know for a fact, talking with mike, i mean, he has a much deeper understanding and a personal feeling about the fact that he supported a policy that was already in place. focused on reducing violence. focused on saving people's lives. mostly, black and brown men. but that he caused pain and that is painful to him. and so he'll co
