joining me michael orrin, israel's ambassador to the united states. we anticipate the prime minister is going to be speaking in jerusalem very shortly. let's find out what do you know is in the cease-fire? is there an agreement, for instance, for the hamas in gaza to stop firing rockets and is there any intention to back off, not invade presumably if it's a cease-fire there wouldn't be an invasion, but what about the blockade? what about opening access to gaza? >> hello, andrea. always good to be back. i can't go into many details but what i can say is prime minister netanyahu responded to a request from president obama to agree to the cease-fire which as you said will go into an effect in an hour or so and that -- and that israel will continue to reserve the right to take whatever means are necessary to defend itself, should hamas resume firing at our citizens. we have long-term interests and goals which include not only the cessation of the firing that has gone over the last week, the 1,500 rockets that have hit israel over the last eight days, but

. >> i just got off the phone with the israeli ambassador to washington, michael orrin and he says right now, there is no agreement to a cease-fire in israel by the israelis in the gaza strip. >> we heard the escalation and we are hoping for restoration of calm and hoping for complications. >> i strongly caution against these ground operations. >> president obama asked me to come here with a clear message, america's commitment to israel is unwavering. that is why we believe it is essential to de-escalate the situation in gaza. >> i can tell you the future of diplomacy here still remains very uncertain. what i can tell you for sure is that this air war did intensity. today alone. they fired more than 150 rockets into israel. >> it's a long term solution can be put in place through diplomatic means than israel would be a willing partner to such a solution. a stronger military action is necessary to stop the constant barrage of rockets, israel will not hesitate to do what is necessary to defend our people. >> the big question is, whether anybody can control hamas which you said is a terror

get insight on the potential cease-fire agreement, michael orrin.ou for being with us today. i want to ask about the players in the negotiations now. start with hamas hamas. reuters is saying they have put things on the table. israel has yet to respond to what they proposed. is there anything you can tell us about that? >> hamas is saying that. i wouldn't take hamas as a credible source. listen, there is no secret formula here. it's simple. hamas fired 100 rockets in the last week. in course of 2012, 700 rockets. these people live in constant fear. they have to stop. we have to create situation that terror quist not decide every month or week to open fire on half the population and paralyze our country. we have to create a situation where the iranians cannot smuggle in advanced weaponry in to gaza. by the red sea or over land from libya. >> shannon: how direct player is iran and what is playing out now? >> all the terrorist groups, hamas gets funds from iran, bic terrorist organization such as islamist jihad that are controlled and funded by iran. g

here is israel's ambassador to the u.s., michael orrin. >> our problem is not our border with gaza butountry's brs with gaza and the access of libyan arms and arms that come from iran through sudan. among the rockets being fired at us are the fawjer a rockets which come directly from iran. we know that hamas terrorists have trained with the iranians. strong connection they are iranian made. and about 100 of them were imported into gaza via sudan it appears. when the israelis learned of the existence of these rockets, all it took was one provocation on the part of hamas for israel to go in and wipe out those rockets and those launchers. >> that provocation came when hamas fired on november 14th at an israeli jeep using a guided anti-areartillery missil. that was the provocation. now israel hopes that its reaction to hamas' decision to launch longer and longer rockets towards cities will serve as detecialt to hamas and hezbollah to the north in lebanon i don't know if they choose to serve iran's proxies in the future. >> shepard: you could back the proskts back to when the israelis kille
