so for more on all that joining me now is michael orrin the former israeli ambassador to the u.s. you so much for joining us here. i want to start with what we are seeing now. is this you think the start of the ground incursion? what is this next phase that we are seeing now? >> good to see you. it is certainly the ground incursion. it may not look like similar incursions occurred in the past, like 2014 when the israeli troops been in with an offensive. the american model of having forces take over a neighborhood or a village and then using that neighborhood and village as a springboard for the next village and the next neighborhood. this has the advantage of reducing the casualties on our side. keep in mind that is a citizens army, that we are sending our children out there, our fathers, in some cases our mothers to to fight. we want to keep that price as low as humanly possible. it also has the advantage of ramping up pressure on hamas. though there is a sense that i've heard in recent days that them launching the ground initiative israel would be in hamas is surrounded and in d

obviously, israel is going to want aid, help, additional supplies, the former ambassador michael orrinsaying that one of the things that the u.s. often does in situations like this is help with ammunition. replenish, help israel replenish ammunition and then israel pays it back at a later point in time. but right now there is literally no speaker of the house and it is unclear how congress, which the house obviously as you know needs to be the first one to begin the process of authorizing any aid package to any other country. what happens? >> yeah, i -- obviously, obviously i don't know exactly how that will work out. i do know, a couple of things, though. in terms of how congress and the white house are approaching this. we heard in congress from greg mitz, i think he made clear in your conversation with him in ongoing discussions he is having with leadership i have no idea how, but i do know that the statements from a huge number of members of congress, the house and senate, just like leaders around the world have been incredibly supportive of israel in the face of this horrific atta

i want to bring in michael orrin a former israeli ambassador to the united states. mr.mbassador, thank you so much for joining us at such an important moment. we're watching these live pictures from gaza, we've seen both rockets flying into israel, presumably fired by militants, we've also seen strikes by the israeli side into gaza. i want to ask you what we were just talking about with our correspondent nic robertson. he has been seeing amassing of forces, of equipment, the tanks. do you have a sense that a ground invasion by israel into gaza is imminent? >> good to be with you, and thank you for that summary of the history of hamas. just very -- two very important points before i get to your question, one is for israelis, not just for israelis, barbarians who shoot 260 young people at a rave concert, who put children in cages, who parade women naked through the streets of gaza, go into houses and take out families and shoot them, these are not militants, these are not fighters, these are terrorists and it's important to state that. i can also say that i was the deputy

joining me now, michael orrin. ambassador orrin, thank you for joining us.et's begin, if we can, with some good news, for a change, and that is the release of this american mother and daughter. what's your response to that? and why do you think that this is happening now? >> well, thank you, jim. thank you for having me. well, we're delighted that judith and natalie are being reunited with their family. we want all the hostages to be reunited with their families. uncon unconditionally. at once. and that would be very welcome. it's no substitute for our need to deal with hamas, to uproot and destroy hamas. >> and do you think israel has delayed a ground incursion to allow more time to negotiate the release of hostages? do you think that's entering the equation here? and do you think that should be urged at this point, if there is some progress in getting hostages out, maybe now is the time to hold off a little bit? what do you think? >> no, i think that our clocks, our schedules, are not timed to hamas' clocks. we have many, by the way. for example, we have 3
