>> san francisco area became a hot pedof protests following the deaths of michael brown and eric gardner. a lot of unrest paull word with many in the bay area community? >> the bay area was not unique. it struck a visceral cord throughout the region where people felt specifically with the communities of color that they were not working well with law enforcement and that there was disparate treatment in our justice treatment such that there was not aggressive advocacy for accountability for those communities specifically when they involve law enforcement and african-american men, and so that speaks to the need and the desire to have these communities be addressed to rebuild the trust necessary, for them to work both with the local agency and to follow the federal government by way of example in terms of addressing bias and reducing the reliance on stereotypes, and they were specifically enumerated from both law enforcement and the justice system so not relying on unreliable stereotypes involving race gender sexuality, national orientation and sexuality, and that's really what those conversations are going to b

subject, anthony and paul, have defined mass extinctions as a significant portion of the world's biodata into geologically insignificant amount of time. another british paleontologist, michael benton, has used the metaphor of the tree of life during a mass extinction, he's written vast swaths of the tree are cut short as it attacked by crazed ax wielding madmen. so the first of these extinctions, number one on this chart, took place at the end of what's known as the period that is about 440 million years ago. and at that point most of life was still confined to the ocean. there was very little living on land. so that was a devastating event for marine life but not for terrestrial life because there was any wide structural life. the fifth occurred about 56 million years ago and that's the most, by far the most famous. that's the event they killed off the dinosaurs and not just the dancers but also a lot of other groups in the most mammals, most reptiles, snakes for example had also a lot of groups like pterosaurs. i can't shoot a picture of that but i do have this wonderful illustration that i like. there's a pretty broad consensus that this extinction was caused by an aster
