>> reporter: every day michael rogers cringes when he looks at the prices at the pumps. >> we're barely making it as it is. but with the price of gas going up the way it has, we're not -- i mean, it's -- it's taking into that little bit of extra that we had to be able to buy things like food. >> problem is, now gas prices are even worrying the people who feed those in need. >> we have over 28 trucks in our fleet who are utilizing that fuel to get the food, either from the packers and growers and donors, or getting it out into the communities. >> reporter: every month, second harvest food bank feeds more than 250,000 people in santa clara and san mateo counties. program and serves director says the nonprofit is dealing with a 29% increase in fuel cost since december. forcing them to raise an additional $500,000 this fiscal year. at a time when the demand for food is greater than ever. >> the perfect storm, with the rising fuel cost, rising food cost, rising needs. you have that, you know, compounded affect on individuals we're trying to serve in order to get food out to them. >> reporter
