joining me now is michael steele and john staten. chairman steele here's what i don't understand. if you're jeb bush's campaign strategist, why send the governor out with a statement of support for the indiana this early in the game? >> you like to think because this is a principled position that the governor wants to take as i think you could say for a number of republicans who have come out and spoken on this. they didn't want to sit back to do the political calculation. that's part it. i think the other part of it is the dynamics of a potentially large republican field for the nomination kicking off next week. already has with cruz but you'll have others jumping in the next few weeks. i think all of that kind of moved or forced the hand of the governor. he took a measured position. it wasn't something you could swing one way wildly or the other. he tried to find that strike zone down the middle. i think that was safe for him. he was heading out to the west coast to raise money. these businesses are not going to throw jeb bush under the bus for this. trust me. >> i guess, john h

joining me michael steele political an insist and anne lewis, senior advisor to hillary clinton in herampaign. michael, i want to start to you. just react. he's essentially saying there's not really a smoking gun but instead a pattern he's detailing in this book. what are broader political implications here? does he have a problem with his argument? >> i think there's a little bit of a problem with the argument as when you throw out so much as he has in this book that is not substancetiated with facts. a smoking gun that shows hillary clinton traded her office of secretary of state for money. it becomes a problem for hillary obviously. in making a credible argument this is something the clintons have engaged in. you've got to show a pattern of behavior. in some proceedings they may do that. in politics you can't. once you put that narrative out there, it sticks. if it later shows there's no proof and this was unsubstantiated, it becomes a problem in the political process. >> do you think it's irresponsible given there isn't a smoking gun to make these connections. >> he's written a boo

steel cage. the prison is home to convicted murders like the unabomber. the master mind behind the 1993 world trade center bombing. and michael swango a physician convicted of four murders who's suspected of killing as many as 60 patients. the prison is meant to house the worst of the worst. but a recent class action lawsuit filed by the inmates says mentally ill prisoners are regularly assigned to the unit. the inmate claims the prison's indifference to their serious mental illnesses has resulted in horrible consequences. one of the plaintiffs is jason legget. he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. john powers has no history of mental illness before he went to prison but the suit says he developed severe ptsd after witnessing the murders of three inmates. at adx, he mutilated himself and has repeatedly tried to commit suicide. >> a spokesman for the prison would not address this specific allegations of this lawsuit but stated that all inmates are treated in a professional manner by trained staff. the director of the d.c. prisoner's rights project is here to speak with us.
