michael stern says in recent days he's been looking for answers as to who removed a roadside memorial to sarah that have been on the bridge. >> it's a shame that somebody had to actually go up there and made an effort to try to wipe it clean. >> a consistent momentous, photos, and a framed photo wire to the bridge railing. the family went put a new memorial on the bridge, this one firmly bolted to the railing. >> is just in lieu of a funeral since there is body has not been recovered. we need closure for the family and friends. >> 335 bridges owned and operated by the state department of transportation. a spokesman tells me they did not remove the memorial. they do have a bit of a touchy balancing act when it comes to these and a dot spokesman told me that the department is sensitive to the family's friends who wish to express their grief through memorial. they added that they have a responsibility to ensure the memorial itself does not pose a danger to those visiting the memorial, the public, motorist, cyclist or pedestrians. if it does pose a danger, the dot says they will remove it
