((brittany edney)) early voting sites across the valley have seen a good number of the most recent numbers show nearly 27-thousand voters have cast ballots today. back in 20-12.... the total turnout for the first day of early voting was just over 33-thousand--- which has been the first day record. as for security measures in place to make sure voter information is safe... the county started using touch-screen machines back in 2004. the machines are stand alone and don't have access to the internet. we're told the cartridges insi all the votes.... and also provide a paper backup as well. residents who came out to the polls today, say it's important to make your vote count. ((michael stevens)) >> demetria... wearing a blue jumpsuit... francis stood before a judge emotionless... when his name was during today's initial appearance. franics is being held without bail... on one felony county of open murder with a deadly weapon. he is accused of shooting his 86-year-old grandmother... marilyn guidry... in front of a home near lake mead and rampart. police say he beat his grandmother in the street. interaction and tried stopping francis before shooting... but it was too late. the documents go on to say francis' son was in the home at the time and heard the 86-year-old pleading for her grandson to get off her... just before francis pulled the trigger. people in the area tried c-p-r on the woman. but she eventually died. after the shooting, police say francis ran into a nearby backyard... with a gun, and wouldn't give himself up to police. metro's swat team... ande it was several hours later when the 45-year-old finally gave up... and surrendered to police. detectives believe he had a lot of deep issues.
