she sat down with abc's michael strahan, opening up her chemistry with her co-star and director. playing a part that took her back to her roots as a young star. >> the movie marks a career milestone for both actors. for cooper, his directorial debut. for gaga, her first leading role. >> the kernel of this movie was really just a love story, you know, and two people honestly in love with each other and what that means. >> i did a cancer fundraiser. i performed that night and bradley was in the audience. the next day he wanted to meet me. he came over and, you know, i looked in his eyes and i just had an instant connection with him, and we were so comfortable together. he made me feel so comfortable. he said to me, do you mind if we sing together? i said, sure. and then he opened his mouth to sing. ♪ ♪ >> i was blown away by his voice because he sings from his gut. he sings from his soul. i was overwhelmed with his ability to tell a story through his voice. that's why i wanted to do this, was because i believed in him so much. >> and cooper believed in her too. >> it's one thing to
