michelle franzing is back with us live from newtown. michelle, you're there tonight live. it feels like. i wonder what the people of that community are all sharing right now, the grief? >> well, we've certainly felt this emotion grow throughout the day as the details of this tragedy unfolded. and, at this hour, they are continuing to hold that vigil that we talked about earlier at a nearby catholic church. hundreds gathering there. residents and families coming together and mourning together, trying to make sense of this tragedy together. i think we have a live view of that vigil at this hour. and several people have commented who are attending the vigil tonight, that they just wanted to come together. that, of course, many of them knew of the children at the school, whether they made it out or did not survive today. and they knew the families. it's a very close knit community here. so they're coming together, trying to offer their condolences and trying to make sense of what could have possibly prompted the shooter to go ahead and take such -- so many innocent lives today

>>reporter: michelle brother michael broke down talking about his sister. the plans michelle had for her life and she wanted to follow in late mother foot steps and become a nurse. those dreams ended the day the 26-year-old student went missing from a parking garage in hayward last year. the lay family worst fear were confirmed when after weeks of searches by police and volunteers her decomposed body was found in a remote area near pleasanton. today the family trying to heal while hoping that their words will be remembered many years from now in 2029 when michelle killer could be up for parole. >> just want to know after 25 years to know how unique she was and give a face to michelle's case. >>reporter: esteban brother and sister left the criminal without talking to the media. the judge offered word of comfort to the lay family about their loss telling them that you never get over it. only learn to get through it. this is abc 7 news. >>> frightening accident overnight in involving 2 men in a laundry delivery truck. truck burst in flames after it hit a power

giselle esteban is going to prison for a long time in the murder of michelle le. >> reporter: the judge gave her 25 years to life in prison then he said to her, i've never seen a case with stronger evidence of premeditation this was a cold blooded murder. no cameras were allowed in the court today for the sentencing. we have file video of giselle esteban from a previous court appearance. she was convicted in october for the murder of michelle le. the two went to high school together. esteban believed le was in a relationship her ex-boyfriend and father of her child. the judge said nowhere did he see a hint of remorse. >> made a great observation, we always felt she felt no remorse. she starred at our family with a blank stare. it was good he pointed that out. >> i want -- -- dank to know how beautiful and incredible michelle was and how much it affected my entire family. we are going to live our lives trying to do without her. >> reporter: michael le pointed out during the 113 days he says yes, they counted, that they searched for his sister, esteban never came forward to tell them wher

>> yes, michelle. in fact, an overwhelming majority of republicans in the house last week would have supported john boehner's proposal to raise taxes on millionaires and we couldn't get a single democrat to join us in this effort. furthermore, michelle, after the election this past november where you rightly say -- but so did a majority in the house of representatives as republicans we have a responsibility to stay true to our principles john boehner said to the president you what? you won, but so did we and so we'll meet you half way. you said you wanted to raise taxes and generate $800 billion in revenue over ten years and we'll give you the revenue and we'll give you exactly what you want which is 800 billion in revenue, but let's make good on the campaign pledge which is $3 in cuts for every $1 in revenue and president obama didn't meet us half way and he didn't only offer $2.4 billion in cuts and he wanted twice the revenue. he said 800 billion is what he said during the election. >> and 6 trillio

michelle, thank you. millions are shopping and millions are traveling this weekend before christmas and a lot of folks are digging out after an ill-timed winter storm. we've got it all covered and go first to weather channel meteorologist scott newell. what's the forecast? >> well, i'll tell you something. the ski resorts here in western new york are absolutely thrilled that they had a major snowstorm already but that system moved from the midwest eastward and has caused a lot of problems including an accident in western maryland that killed one person, bringing the death toll from the storm to at least eight. the lake effect snow had a lot of people here in new york digging out early. in fact, several areas in western new york reported snowfalls of a foot or more. heavy snow and ice knocked out power in several cities including parts of maine and michigan. lake effect snow continues off lake ontario and those areas east and southeast of lake ontario should pick up an additional 3 to 6 inches by tomorrow.
