michelle franzen has the latest. >> reporter: a brazen deadly attack in new york city leaving the police commissioner and mayor shaken. >> bear with us as we try to bring some sense to the madness that occurred this on the streets of brooklyn. >> our city is in mourning. our hearts are heavy. >> reporter: sinking in, two police officers shot to death on the streets of brooklyn in broad daylight. >> they were quite simply assassinated. >> reporter: police say the shooter, 28-year-old ismail walked up to the police car and fired his weapon several times through the front passenger window, striking the officers in the head several times. police say he then ran to a nearby subway station where he shot himself in the head. earlier on saturday in baltimore -- >> a female believed to be his former girlfriend was shot and seriously wounded at her residence. >> he posted on social media. >> which were anti-police. >> those postings alerted baltimore police, but their warning about his intention to harm police officers arrived in new york city at the same time the two officers were gunned down. th

i'm michelle franzen. >> i'm kendis gibson. good morning and merry christmas to you. we begin with a safety breach at the cdc. >> it's the deadly ebola virus. after the scare in the u.s. earlier this year, how could this happen? elizabeth hur has the latest. >> reporter: a mistake at a high-security lab, according to authorities, now means a lab technician at the cdc must be monitored for possible exposure to the dangerous ebola virus. a small amount, officials say, which may have contained the live virus was accidently moved from a level four lab where researchers are required to work fully protected in airtight suits to a lower level security lab where the technician processed the virus. it happened on monday. and even though it was on a sealed plate, it should not have been moved. the director of the cdc said i am troubled by this incident. we are monitoring the health of the one technician who could have been exposed and i have directed a full review of the incident. this is the third troubling incident at the cdc in recent months. in may, a deadly bird flu was is

here's abc's michelle franzen. >> reporter: a terrifying scene on an amtrak train traveling from chicago to michigan friday night. >> i heard somebody screaming and yelling. i saw him bring his fist back up, and i noticed there was something in his fist resembling a knife blade. >> people down with stab wounds. >> reporter: witnesses describing a knife-wielding man who began stabbing passengers in one of the train cars at the stop in niles, michigan, leaving behind a pool of blood. police say four victims suffered injuries including the conductor and three passengers. >> there was an older -- not old -- older gentleman that was stabbed somewhere in the chest area. and he's the one that's in serious condition. >> suspect in custody right now. >> reporter: officers apprehended the suspect and when the train left chicago passengers and conductors reported that the man was acting strangely. >> they radioed to amtrak in chicago, i believe, who called our dispatch center to ask if officers could stand by when the train arrived. when the officers got here, the assaults were taking place. >> rep
