. >>> let's get a check of the weather with nbc meteorologist michelle grossman. >> we're looking at cold air coming in. if you haven't brought out the winter coats yet, now is the time to do it. the reason is we had a jet stream dip so far to the south, it is allowing the cold air to come in and opening up the door to the canadian air. the purples and the pinks indicating where that bitter blast will be, and most of us will be under the bitter blast. so taking a look at temperatures today, 34, that's just two degrees above freezing, in omaha and 18 degrees below what is typical for this time of the year. tulsa, dallas, also chilly, and little rock, 57, and 31 in chicago. that is below freezing there. and now we slide this to the east, so by friday, the northeast, you're going to feel the coldest air of the season, and well below what is typical for this time of the year. cleveland, 35. new york, 41. 14 degrees below what is typical for this time of the year and factor in the winds and brisk winds and feel colder than that, so a lot of spots feeling like the freezing mark if not belo

joining me for a look at what to expect if you are traveling, nbc news meteorologist michelle grossmanhat's the latest? you've got to feel bad for travelers on both coasts dealing with these storms? >> absolutely. we're looking at an expansive area in terms of winter weather alerts, warnings. all these colors showing a warning, watch or blizzard warning. rapid city under that in the purple here. stretching from the southwest to the northern plains over to the great lakes and even down to parts of southern plains. this is a wide area. this is what satellite and radar looks like right now. where you're seeing the blue, that's where the snow is falling. the pink is the icy mix, terrible to travel on. we're looking at heavy rain in the southern plains. no fun there. strong winds as well, strong winds in the southwest to the central plains and, of course, to the northeast. in the northeast we've been talking about this this morning. this is the big story for today, the wind story. looking at a high wind advisory -- wind advisory in this blue for parts of the northeast. that will extend into

meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking both of these storms for us and molly hunter is in minneapolisrt with you. how bad is this for travelers? yeah, it is a nightmare as we go throughout today, thanksgiving, friday, and then the return trip home is not going to be easy either. we have two storms you mentioned and an historic storm that moved on the coast of oregon. they're seeing rain and wind and the west all the way to the east being impacted by some sort of storm this wednesday into thanksgiving. let's talk about what's happening right now in terms of airport delays. hopeful hopefully you got to the destination you want to be at. look at minneapolis with all the snow they received last night. 79-minute delay in minneapolis. we see a delay also in chicago. that's probably going to tick up as we go throughout the afternoon. as we head towards the east, that will tick up overnight into thursday. let's talk about what is happening right now. this is the setup in terms of the storms. we had a historic storm come onshore yesterday near oregon and northwestern california. we are talking

joining me here in the studio, meteorologist michelle grossman. okay. to grandmother's house we go.re are the trouble spots? >> they're pretty much everywhere. i think a better question is where are there no trouble spots. we're looking at travel trouble at least since last tuesday into this sunday. it's pretty much from west coast to east coast. we're looking at a coast-to-coast situation here. let's talk about the snow first. we have lots of colors on the map indicating some snow out there. winter storm watches and warnings, even a blizzard warning in rapid city. great news for the skiers, they're probably loving this on a holiday. just not great news for travelers on the road and in the air. satellite radar, snow falling, that's the blue. green, heavy rain in the southern plains. pinks and purples showing us the icy mixes, that's the toughest to travel on. the big story are the winds in the northeast. this is going to be travel trouble today in the northeast because we're seeing winds gusting up to 55 miles per hour as some of those airports have a wind advisory. in the northeast

i'm meteorologist michelle grossman with your business travelers forecast the storm coming on shore. at satellite and radar. a lot of impact in the business travel where we see the blue, that's in snow we're seeing heavy rain in southwest arizona, also the northwest. this will continue as we go throughout the day and continue into the weekend let's talk about winter weather advisory this will no doubt impact your travel on the roads, also in the air. we have winter storm warnings, winter storm watches also blizzard warnings that includes rapid city air travel, we are looking at the possibility of a lot of delays across the country. this is a coast-to-coast storm it's impacting many on friday and then again on sunday as we get back to work as well so that pacific storm moving to the rockies impacting parts of the inner mountain west and severe storms in the northwest the northeast is looking pretty good high pressure and control, lots of sunshine. look at the possibilities of some delays. kansas city with showers and thunderstorms. oklahoma city down to dallas, even st. louis and hous
